Sterile Processing and Distribution Allied Health Professional
Duties
The duties include but are not limited to:
- Monitoring quality assurance in cleaning/decontamination, sterilization, reprocessing, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment in four SPS work areas.
- Ensuring proper procedures are followed and items are safe for use.
- Adhering to national sterile processing standards for cleaning and reprocessing of reusable medical devices (RMD).
- Coordinating structured training and ensuring staff competency through reviews and demonstrations.
- Coordinating with hospital departments (OR, dental, endoscopy, ER, clinics) to ensure compliance with directives.
- Updating the Chief on patient safety alerts and issues with reusable medical devices.
- Evaluating internal processes using fact-finding or investigative techniques.
- Analyzing and evaluating facts to address unsatisfactory conditions or trends.
- Applying methods to investigate and recommend corrective actions on quality problems.
- Ensuring appropriateness of work during quality reviews using SPS policies and infection control procedures.
- Utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, and other software programs.
- Applying aseptic principles and techniques for sterilization, including testing effectiveness.
- Communicating directives, rules, and regulations in writing and orally.
- Demonstrating the goals of Sterile Processing and effective tracking systems.
- Providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
- Developing and reviewing policies and procedures impacting IMS; seeking approvals for SOP changes and recommending amendments as technology evolves.
- Performing data entry for new instrument sets, equipment, and procedural trays.
- Managing additions, modifications, and deletions to instrument set count sheet requests.
- Assisting in developing disaster plans and downtime procedures for IMS and sterilization equipment.
- Running administrative reports and providing them to the Chief and Assistant Chief SPS.
- Managing user access levels for the system and adding new users.
- Developing staff competencies in using the tracking system effectively.
- Providing hardware/software support and managing department needs.
- Collaborating with facility IT and Bioengineering for service-level troubleshooting.
- Working with Censis Technologies to resolve system documentation issues.
- Directing overall activities of Censitrac with the Assistant Chief and assisting with orientation and training for new and ongoing changes.
- Ensuring compliance with professional standards (OSHA, The Joint Commission, CDC, AAMI).
- Developing and managing staff in instrument marking and data entry.
- Orienting new employees and conducting in-services on instrumentation tracking.
- Implementing new functionality and resolving user questions on system processing.
- Performing system file maintenance including digital images for instruments or sets.
- Communicating openly with departments, supervisors, peers, and staff.
- Assisting with the PI program related to IMS.
- Troubleshooting system and accessory equipment issues and following up with vendors for resolution.
- Ensuring compliance with reusable medical devices (RMD) standards.
Work Schedule
Hours vary from 6:30am-8:30pm.
Pay
Competitive salary and regular salary increases.
Paid Time Off
37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year). Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience.
Parental Leave
After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy
After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
