Applies knowledge of mechanics, shop math, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures to set-up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts. Train personnel as needed
Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following :
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of math and instruments such as micrometers, verniers, and gauges.
- Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
- Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machine work.
- Measure, examine, and test completed units for defects and ensure conformance to specifications.
- Read work orders and / or production schedules to determine specifications, such as material to be used, location of cutting lines, and dimension and tolerances.
- Set-up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools to perform precision machining operations.
- Start and run machines, monitor their operations, and record operational data.
- Adjust machine speeds and actions, according to product specifications.
- Operate Fork lifts and cranes
- Use of torches, grinders and multiple power tools
- On sight work domestic and international
- Maintain a clean, safe, working environment.
- Support other areas of the shop as needed.
