Job description

Payroll Analyst

The Payroll Analyst is responsible for processing payroll for multiple locations, both union and non-union, with a focus on accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. Utilizing Ceridian Dayforce as the primary payroll system, the analyst will ensure the timely and precise processing of payroll data, including all pay calculations, tax deductions, benefits, and special adjustments. The role will also require proactive auditing, troubleshooting, and resolving payroll issues to maintain employee satisfaction and legal compliance. Key Responsibilities :

1. Payroll Processing :

  • Accurately process payroll for a multi-location organization, ensuring all union and non-union employees are paid in accordance with applicable wage rates, collective bargaining agreements (CBA), and company policies.
  • Utilize Ceridian Dayforce to input, validate, and generate paychecks for each payroll period (weekly, bi-weekly, etc.).
  • Ensure proper application of various pay categories (regular, overtime, bonuses, etc.) and deductions (taxes, retirement contributions, benefits, etc.).

2. Audit and Accuracy :

  • Perform routine audits on payroll data to identify and correct discrepancies, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws, as well as company-specific policies.
  • Reconcile payroll discrepancies by working closely with HR, team members, and managers to resolve issues before payroll is processed.
  • Ensure the accuracy of team member information within Ceridian Dayforce, including changes to pay rates, hours worked, tax elections, benefits, and personal information.
  • 3. Troubleshooting & Problem Resolution :

  • Investigate and resolve any payroll discrepancies, addressing issues such as missing or incorrect pay, tax withholdings, deductions, or benefits.
  • Respond to team member payroll-related inquiries in a timely and professional manner, providing clarification and solutions for issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve complex payroll issues and improve payroll processes.
  • 4. Compliance & Reporting :

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws, including filing and submitting payroll tax reports (e.g., Form 941, state filings, local tax reports, etc.).
  • Prepare, analyze, and distribute various payroll reports as needed, such as payroll summary reports, tax filings, garnishments, and year-end reports.
  • Stay current with changes to payroll laws and regulations, ensuring payroll policies and practices are updated accordingly to comply with new legislation (e.g., minimum wage increases, tax law changes, etc.).
  • 5. Record Keeping & Documentation :

  • Maintain accurate and confidential payroll records, including team member pay history, tax information, and deductions.
  • Assist in the preparation of year-end payroll documents, such as W-2s, 1099s, and other tax filings.
  • Ensure compliance with internal documentation requirements related to payroll processing, audits, and reporting.
  • 6. Collaboration & Communication :

  • Work closely with HR and Benefits teams to ensure that employee changes (e.g., new hires, terminations, promotions, benefits enrollment) are accurately reflected in the payroll system.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to team members by promptly responding to inquiries, clarifying pay-related concerns, and offering payroll guidance.
  • Quals :

  • Minimum 7 years of payroll processing experience, with a focus on multi-location payroll management.
  • Proficiency in Ceridian Dayforce or other payroll systems is highly preferred.
  • Experience with union payrolls and collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) is a must.
  • Experience in payroll tax, including accurate payroll tax calculations, preparing and filing returns, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., VLOOKUP, PivotTables) for payroll reporting and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of payroll tax laws and the ability to navigate complex payroll calculations.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
  • Excellent accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to conduct thorough audits and resolve discrepancies proactively.
  • Strong troubleshooting abilities to resolve payroll issues and discrepancies quickly and effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain payroll issues to team members and other departments in an understandable manner.
  • A service-oriented attitude and ability to maintain a professional demeanor when handling sensitive payroll matters.
  • Payroll Certification (e.g., Certified Payroll Professional [CPP]) is a plus.
  • Experience processing garnishments, levies, and other payroll deductions.
  • Nesco Resource offers a comprehensive benefits package for our associates, which includes a MEC (Minimum Essential Coverage) plan that encompasses Medical, Vision, Dental, 401K, and EAP (Employee Assistance Program) services.
