Job Description

Manufacturing Controls & Process Engineer I

Job Type : Permanent | Direct Hire

Location : Onsite – Orange, CT

Salary : $80,000

Role Overview

We are seeking a Manufacturing Controls & Process Engineer I to provide hands-on, floor-based engineering support within a Food & Beverage manufacturing environment . This role is heavily embedded in daily plant operations and is ideal for an engineer who thrives on the production floor, enjoys troubleshooting live equipment, and has strong working knowledge of PLC-controlled manufacturing systems .

This is not a desk-based role . The successful candidate will spend the majority of their time on the plant floor working directly with production, maintenance, and quality teams to support safe, efficient, and reliable manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on troubleshooting and support for PLC-controlled manufacturing equipment, including sensors, actuators, I / O, drives, and HMIs
  • Actively support day-to-day production operations by diagnosing and resolving process, automation, and equipment issues in real time
  • Partner with Controls, Engineering, and Maintenance teams to coordinate PLC logic changes, system improvements, and equipment upgrades
  • Support and optimize manufacturing processes to improve throughput, yield, quality, uptime, and equipment reliability
  • Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives , including downtime reduction, waste elimination, and process standardization
  • Develop, maintain, and improve SOPs, work instructions, and process documentation related to controls, automation, and manufacturing processes
  • Train and mentor operators, technicians, and maintenance personnel on equipment operation, controls functionality, and basic PLC troubleshooting
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective action efforts related to equipment failures, process deviations, quality issues, and safety events
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Maintenance, QA, and Sanitation to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient production
  • Ensure compliance with GMPs, HACCP, OSHA , and internal safety and quality standards
  • Maintain accurate documentation for process changes, controls updates, and continuous improvement initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • Strong working knowledge of PLC-controlled manufacturing equipment
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting automation, electrical, and mechanical systems in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience working in Food & Beverage or other GMP-regulated manufacturing environments
  • Ability to troubleshoot I / O, HMIs, sensors, and automated equipment on the production floor
  • Comfortable spending the majority of time in a hands-on, plant-floor role
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing setting
  • Preferred Experience

  • Experience supporting or modifying PLC logic in collaboration with Controls or Engineering teams
  • Exposure to continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, TPM)
  • Experience training operators or maintenance teams on equipment and controls systems
  • Ideal Candidate Profile

  • A Process Engineer with strong controls exposure who wants to deepen hands-on manufacturing experience
  • Enjoys being embedded in operations rather than working behind a desk
  • Confident working directly with operators and maintenance technicians
  • Comfortable troubleshooting live production equipment in a regulated environment
  • This position is being recruited by Yellow Door Recruiting LLC on behalf of the client. All candidate information is kept confidential and will not be shared without prior consent.
