Materials Engineers perform a variety of tasks in support of Thermo King Engineering and end customers with respect to validation of Transport Refrigeration product performance and design. This validation is done early-on in support of New Product Development (NPD) as well as post-sale support of customer units in service. This position will support testing in the Materials / Chemistry Lab. The focus of this role is environmental testing using salt fog and Xenon Arc chambers. Salt fog chambers are used to evaluate the ability of various coating systems to prevent corrosion of the base material. Xenon Arc chambers reproduce the damage caused by full-spectrum sunlight and rain and are used to evaluate coating systems and composite materials. Therefore, comfort in working with basic chemicals and lab equipment is required. Attention to detail is a must along with strong communication and documentation skills. As familiarity with Thermo King Products and processes matures, this role will also consult with various project teams and suppliers. Project involvement ranges from material selection for new products to forensic evaluation of failed components.
