Job description

Position :   The Iowa Testing Programs and Department of Psychological and Quantitative Foundations at The University of Iowa invite applications for an open rank, tenure-track faculty appointment in Educational Measurement and Statistics that will hold the position of Associate Director in Iowa Testing Programs . The position will begin no later than August 2025.

Description :   We seek an individual with outstanding applied or theoretical research in the field of testing and measurement who has broad interests and evidence of significant professional accomplishment in measurement research, development, and implementation contributing to the improved use of testing and assessment in education.

Education Requirement :   Prospective candidates must have an earned doctorate with specialization in educational measurement.

Required Qualifications :   (1) significant evidence of leadership in K-12 large-scale assessment; (2) significant evidence of contributions to the design, development, and implementation of tests in education; and (3) significant evidence of scholarly productivity.

Desirable Qualifications :   (1) evidence of teaching skills; (2) potential for maintaining and securing external funds for research, training, and program development; (3) experience working collaboratively with practitioners and researchers from different theoretical and methodological backgrounds who act from a range of different perspectives.

Responsibilities :   The successful applicant will be a part of the rich history of the Iowa Testing Programs in the College of Education at the University of Iowa. The successful candidate will be expected to become involved in managing and maintaining existing external funding, to pursue and secure additional relationships and funding sources, to participate in the activities of professional organizations, to engage in state and national activities that support the practice of educational measurement, and to assume leadership responsibilities in Iowa Testing Programs. In addition, candidates will be expected to maintain an ongoing program of research in educational measurement, design and teach graduate courses in educational measurement, and advise MA and PhD students. The successful candidate also will be expected to contribute directly to the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress , the Iowa Assessments , and related programs and materials designed and developed by Iowa Testing Programs.

Appointment :   Fiscal year / 12-month tenure-track appointment beginning no later than August 2025.

About the Program

The Educational Measurement and Statistics program at The University of Iowa is a world-famous masters and doctoral program with ties to the internationally-renowned Iowa Testing Programs , as well as industry giants – such as ACT and Pearson – that are located in Iowa City. Both ACT and Pearson owe their beginnings to the college’s testing pioneer, E.F. Lindquist, and the brilliant history related to his research. The program trains students in educational measurement, applied statistics, and data science in social and education sciences to produce scholars who obtain employment in a wide range of industries, from ACT and Pearson to Gallup and Amazon, in addition to positions in postsecondary education.
