Job Summary / Overview



The Mechanical Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the mechanical engineering function on EPC projects, with primary oversight of rotating equipment, static equipment, and mechanical systems. This role ensures that all mechanical engineering deliverables are executed in accordance with project specifications, industry standards, and project schedules.

The Mechanical Engineering Manager provides technical leadership, manages engineering resources, and serves as the primary interface between engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning teams to ensure successful delivery of mechanical systems from design through startup.

Essential Job Functions

· Lead and manage the mechanical engineering team across multiple EPC projects.


· Oversee development of mechanical deliverables including equipment specifications, datasheets, and technical evaluations.


· Ensure engineering quality, consistency, and compliance with project and company standards.


· Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior and mid-level engineers.


· Provide technical oversight for selection, specification, and procurement of rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, turbines, blowers, fans).


· Review vendor proposals, technical bid evaluations (TBEs), and equipment performance data.


· Ensure proper integration of rotating equipment with process and control systems.


· Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis of rotating equipment issues during commissioning and operations.


· Oversee design and specification of static equipment including pressure vessels, heat exchangers, tanks, and piping interfaces.


· Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (ASME, API, ANSI, etc.).


· Coordinate with piping, structural, and process engineering teams to ensure system integration.


· Support procurement activities including vendor selection, bid reviews, and technical clarifications.


· Interface with equipment manufacturers and suppliers to ensure compliance with specifications and delivery timelines.


· Review vendor drawings and documents for approval.


· Provide technical support during construction, installation, and mechanical completion.


· Assist in resolving field engineering issues related to mechanical systems and equipment.


· Support constructability reviews and installation planning.


· Support development of commissioning plans and procedures for mechanical systems.


· Participate in equipment testing, alignment, and startup activities.


· Assist in troubleshooting and resolving mechanical performance issues during commissioning.


· Ensure all mechanical engineering work meets project specifications, safety requirements, and regulatory standards.


· Support QA/QC activities including inspections, testing, and documentation.


· Promote adherence to industry best practices and company standards.


· Coordinate closely with process, electrical, instrumentation, procurement, and construction teams.


· Participate in project meetings and provide mechanical engineering input.


· Manage interfaces between mechanical systems and other engineering disciplines.


· Support project planning, scheduling, and workload forecasting for mechanical engineering resources.


· Ensure timely delivery of mechanical engineering deliverables.


· Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies.



Qualifications


Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations
· Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required.



Education, Experience, and/or Training

· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.


· Minimum 10–15 years of experience in mechanical engineering within EPC or industrial environments.


· Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role.


· Strong experience with rotating equipment in energy, chemical, or industrial projects.


· Experience supporting large-scale EPC projects from design through commissioning.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

· Deep knowledge of rotating equipment design, selection, and operation.


· Strong understanding of mechanical systems and static equipment design.


· Familiarity with applicable industry codes and standards (API, ASME, ANSI).


· Ability to review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and vendor documents.


· Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities.


· Leadership and team management skills.


· Communication proficiency with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.


· Organizational and project management skills.


· Critical thinking and decision-making ability.
