The Mechanical Inspector is a member of the Sustainable Facilities Team within the Division of Citywide Services. The team works to improve operations by inspecting mechanical systems to maximize performance and reduce energy costs.
Major Responsibilities
- Under supervision perform mechanical engineering work of moderate difficulty and responsibility.
- Engage in research investigations studies and examinations related to the engineering functions or activities of NYC Parks including the operation maintenance repair and alteration of public works.
- Inspect operating conditions of low-pressure boilers and heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Check for normal system operation such as the stack temperature of flue gases system pressure and temperature and any abnormal noises or leaks coming from the equipment.
- Conduct equipment inventory of buildings by observing checking certifying and documenting the installation of materials and equipment. Verify equipment performance and test results of materials.
- Represent the division at on-site meetings regarding substantial completion of HVAC work final inspection walkthroughs and HVAC balancing.
- Prepare and submit reports on field findings.
- Create work orders in the Asset Management Planning System (AMPS) as requested.
- Develop and maintain databases. Trouble-shoot and resolve database issues in a timely manner.
- Perform other work as assigned including but not limited to estimating energy auditing conducting lighting surveys etc.
- Work in mechanical spaces and on rooftops.

Qualifications :
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in mechanical engineering aerospace engineering or mechatronics and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in mechanical engineering work; or
2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in mechanical engineering technology and three years of full-time satisfactory experience in mechanical engineering work; or
3. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and a masters degree from an accredited college in mechanical engineering or mechatronics.
