Responsibilities Promotes professionalism and interacts with colleagues in a way that promotes a cooperative working environment. Ensure specimens are obtained in accordance with laboratory guidelines. Demonstrate proper communication skills to relate pertinent data or information about the patient or laboratory sample to appropriate care provider. Supports organizational priorities to maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. Attains required competency and demonstrates the ability to follow procedural directions and protocols. Able to prioritize and organize workload and assist other coworkers to maintain productivity. Follows proper protocols for specimen packaging and specimen transport. Responsible for patient registration, lab test ordering, specimen receipt, accessioning, processing and specimen distribution according to protocol. Demonstrates proper infection control practices, proper patient identification, performs proper prompt specimen transport. Performs proper drug screen collection and processing, as assigned Answers laboratory department phone calls. Monitors phlebotomy draw list and assigns / dispatches phlebotomists to draw specimens as assigned. Courier duties as assigned. Demonstrates ability to recognize emergent conditions and reacts appropriately. Provides phlebotomy services in a professional and patient centered manner as assigned. Engages in self-evaluation of practice and takes action to improve knowledge and skills. Retains accountability for quality of care given to the patient. Promotes service excellence and growth of the laboratory. May work with multiple departments within the laboratory or across the hospital / health system. Performs laboratory tests in compliance with policies and procedures as assigned. Assists in preparing laboratory equipment for testing. Assists other laboratory personnel with laboratory related processes as assigned. Responsible for other duties as assigned. Qualifications Job Requirements High School diploma or equivalent Preferred Job Requirements Certification from nationally recognized agency as a phlebotomist upon hire Certification from a nationally recognized agency as a medical lab assistant within 2 years of hire date Experience working in the clinical setting
