MEDICAL LABORATORY SPECIALIST
Overview :
As a Medical Laboratory Specialist, you'll have the important responsibility of caring for and aiding in the diagnosis and treatment of the Soldiers. You’ll collect samples from patients and perform chemical and biological tests to help diagnose. You’ll have to work through a lot of unknowns and be willing and able to work through projects autonomously and confidently. You’ll sample blood types, perform elementary blood banking, conduct laboratory procedures, maintain laboratory equipment, and pack, unpack, inspect, store, and distribute blood and blood products.
Job Duties :
- Perform elementary blood banking and clinical laboratory procedures in hematology, immunohematology, clinical chemistry, serology, bacteriology, parasitology and urinalysis
- Collect blood specimens by venipuncture and capillary puncture
- Pack, unpack, inspect, store and distribute blood and blood products
- Assemble, disassemble and maintain laboratory equipment
Requirements :
Training :
Job training for a medical laboratory specialist requires 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training and 52 weeks of Advanced Individual Training, including practice-testing specimens.
