Description
Summary : Provides clerical and secretarial support for the department; answers incoming telephone calls; assists visitors to the office.
Duties & Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions : Processes and records all monies collected from the issuance of septic system permits, development permits and food service permits; keeps records of all complaints, permits issued, monies collected, dog bites, oil spills, pollution reports, flood zone determinations, septic systems installed, food service permits issued and real estate transfers; answers all incoming calls and routes to proper authority; types all office correspondence; greets and assists visitors to the office; sorts and distributes incoming mail; prepares outgoing mail; provides assistance and information within scope of responsibility and knowledge. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
Other Job Functions : Performs other job related duties as directed.

Education & Experience
Education & Experience : High school diploma or GED; specialized and / or on-the-job training in secretarial skills and personal computer skills; 2 to 3 years of related job experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities : Knowledge of basic computer skills; knowledge of accepted office practices and procedures; effective verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills in order to deal effectively with co-workers and the general public; math calculation skills. Must be able to type at least 50 wpm.
Equipment Used : Personal computer / mainframe computer, typewriter, 10-key adding machine / calculator, copy machine, FAX machine, other general office equipment as needed.
Work Situations / Demands / Efforts : Job requires organizing; prioritizing; accuracy and attention to detail; flexibility in order to perform a variety of duties; performing routine, repetitive duties; working in a high volume environment.
Working Conditions : Work is performed primarily in a climate controlled open office environment which is readily accessible to the general public as well as other employees. Heavy office traffic may cause distraction and / or interrupt duties. Must be able to work 25-30 hours a week.
Physical Requirements : Work is primarily sedentary; duties require frequent prolonged sitting, walking, reaching, lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 10 lbs.
