PRIMARY PURPOSE
Provides psychological services for patients by developing and executing appropriate interventions. Supervises and provides team leadership and education to professional behavioral health staff to ensure appropriate diagnoses and treatment planning of inmates or patients.
MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS
Education
- Must have a Doctoral Degree in Psychology from an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited university.
- Must have completed an internship with an APA accredited program. Experience
- Must have three (3) years' experience in psychological assessment, diagnostics, and treatment for various mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders.

Responsibilities
1. Provides psychological assessments through personal interview, review of records, interviews of third parties and / or formal evaluation procedures and makes / classifies behavioral health diagnosis, identifies problems, and determines plan of intervention to optimize psychological service to internal and external customers of Dallas County Jail Health, COPC and Parkland, while maintaining a positive working relationship during all contacts. Assesses and intervenes in crisis and emergency situations.
2. Provides psychological treatment through personal interaction to aid patients to relieve emotional distress / psychiatric symptoms, clarify patient goals / priorities, expand social support networks in group or family format and find adaptive solutions to current life problems, while interacting in a professional manner to assure optimal psychological services are provided to the internal and external customers of Dallas County Jail Health, COPC and Parkland.
3. Collaborates with referring providers / professional colleagues to better understand and address the needs of patients' psychological and social needs. May receive or make referrals to external or other internal service providers / clinics for appropriate continuation or follow up care / treatment while maintaining a positive working relationship with all internal and external customers of Dallas County Jail Health, COPC and Parkland.
4. Provides a thorough written record of all therapy / counseling sessions including a comprehensive report addressing patient's presenting problems and current needs, and documentation of all relevant information / contacts pertaining to the patient while observing confidentiality laws and carrying out the goals and objectives as established for Dallas County Jail Health, COPC and Parkland.
5. Identifies and analyzes the design of counseling, interventions, assessments, medical and psychological referrals, patient access, processes, etc. for psychological service. Modifies approach, communication and interaction to take account of sensory impairments and specific needs of all customers, in particular those with special needs. Implements or recommends appropriate changes to improve customer service, effectiveness, and efficiency that support the goals of Dallas County Jail Health, COPC and Parkland.
6. Selects, trains, motivates, supervises, schedules and evaluates assigned behavioral health staff to ensure maximum utilization of individual and group capabilities, while providing optimal service to internal and external customers. Ensures that assigned employees receive opportunities to further their knowledge.
7. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field of clinical psychology and behavioral health, diagnostics, treatment planning and crisis intervention in correction and / or other clinical environments by attending seminars / workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and / or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
8. Identifies and analyzes the design of jobs, work processes, work flows, etc. for assigned areas and job assignments and implements appropriate changes to improve effectiveness, productivity, and efficiency that support the overall goals of Parkland. 9. Maintains knowledge of applicable, rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact mental health. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state / federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding. 10. Develops, implements, monitors, and revises annual goals and objectives for the assigned behavioral health department that support the missions and objectives of Parkland.
9. Provides assistance with Trauma Informed Services at the ambulatory level. Content expert for trauma informed care providing education, guidance, training and response to clinics.
