Job Summary

The Midwifery Practice Manager (MPM) manages, plans, administers, coordinates and supports the Midwifery
team in performing a broad scope of advanced administrative concepts and organizations objectives to resolve
complex issues in the ZSFG Division of the UCSF Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive
Sciences. ZSFG Ob-Gyn has over 150 faculty and staff and an annual budget of approximately $50MM.
The Midwifery Practice Manager supports the Midwifery team with a variety of functions which include a mix of
the following : general administration such as overseeing the scheduling and coordination of clinical services,
budget management, personnel recruitment and development, human resources, and short- and long-term
planning and other administrative tasks. Managing a high volume of varied personnel actions will be a focus of
the job. Additionally, this position will function as a lead to the Midwifery Administrative Assistant in tasks such
as payroll, staff compliance, manual updates and will write the annual performance evaluation.
The MPM will need to apply knowledge, skills, and available resources to creatively solve administrative
problems, including problems that they have not previously encountered. The MPM must exercise judgment,
initiative, and independent research skills to evaluate options and make recommendations to the Midwifery
team. They exhibit strong interpersonal and relationship management skills, and the position requires a high
level of professionalism, diplomacy, and confidentiality. Regularly works on highly complex issues where analysis
of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting
methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve goals
result in additional costs, and serious delays in overall schedules.
Beyond coordination of day-to-day administrative functions, the MPM will recommend, establish, interpret, and
implement University policies and procedures to improve work efficiency within the Division. They will also
manage special projects that arise. The MPM is expected to independently set and prioritize goals and employ
change management strategies. This position requires the ability to prioritize work accurately and independently
and to function effectively in ambiguous situations and under the stress of competing priorities. The MPM will
report to the Director of the Midwifery Service.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $101,600 - $157,500 (Annual Rate).

The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, & Reproductive Sciences (ObGyn & RS) is a major academic
department in the School of Medicine committed to providing quality health care services, educating health care
providers and investigators, and conducting research to advance knowledge in our field. The Department is
nationally recognized for research and training in women's health care specialties. This position is based at the
Department's San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH) Division, a large teaching, research, and clinical site. The
- SFGH Division of Ob-Gyn & RS is home to approximately 40 faculty, 4 non-faculty academics, and 110 staff;
fellows, residents, and other trainees; and the Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health. The Bixby Center
leads research and training programs around the world to improve reproductive and sexual health. The SFGH
division has an annual budget of $50MM. Our mission in the SFGH Division of Ob-Gyn & RS is to promote justice,
