About the Role
As Director of Finance & Operations, you will be a strategic leader and thought partner to the Executive Director, ensuring that financial planning, grants management, and operational efficiencies align with the Museum's mission. You will also serve as the primary liaison to the Finance and Audit Committees, overseeing the Museum's fiscal health while ensuring transparency and compliance. Working closely with senior leadership, you will manage the Facility Operations Manager and maintain financial systems that support the Museum's long-term growth.
Key Responsibilities
Finance Management and Budgeting
You will lead the Museum's financial planning, budgeting, and cash flow management, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively to support both day-to-day operations and long-term sustainability. You will work closely with leadership and the Board to develop strategic financial plans, oversee audits, and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations. Your role will be critical in maintaining financial transparency and fostering trust among stakeholders.
Grants & Fund Management
Overseeing the financial management of all government, foundation, and corporate grants, you will ensure that funding is maximized, compliant, and aligned with programmatic goals. You will work closely with the development team to craft budgets that support compelling grant proposals while ensuring accurate tracking and timely financial reporting to funders.
Operational Leadership & Facilities Oversight
Managing the Facility Operations Manager and the Office Manager & Finance Assistant - you will ensure that the Museum remains a safe, efficient, and welcoming space for children and families. From infrastructure maintenance to safety compliance, you will oversee all aspects of facilities management while optimizing operational workflows to enhance the visitor experience.
Board & Committee Engagement
Serving as the primary liaison to the Finance and Audit Committees, you will present monthly financial dashboards and timely reports to keep the Board informed on key financial and operational matters. Your insights and leadership will support informed decision-making and the Museum's long-term strategic vision.
Strategic Leadership & Thought Partnership
As a trusted advisor to the Executive Director, you will bring a solutions-driven mindset to financial and operational challenges, ensuring that the Museum remains mission-driven, financially sound, and positioned for sustainable growth. You will help shape policies and procedures that enhance efficiency, strengthen compliance, and drive impact across all Museum functions.

- A finance and operations leader with 10+ years of experience in nonprofit financial management, grants oversight, and operations.
- A strategic thinker who can balance big-picture planning with attention to detail.
- A collaborative leader who excels at building relationships across teams and with Board members.
- A problem-solver with a passion for helping organizations maximize resources and achieve their mission.
- Experienced in managing facility operations, working with vendors, and ensuring compliance with financial and legal regulations.
- Proficient in QuickBooks, Excel, and nonprofit financial software.

Strong Stakeholder Management - Exceptional ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Board of Directors governance and related policies.
Exceptional Communication Skills - Outstanding interpersonal, written, and verbal communication , with the ability to engage in public speaking, presentations, and high-level discussions with diverse audiences.
Passion for Our Mission - A deep, demonstrated commitment to children and families in the Bronx , with an understanding of the importance of accessible, community-centered cultural experiences.
Work Environment & Flexibility - Ability to travel throughout the Bronx and NYC boroughs for meetings and events. This role requires availability on weekends, holidays, and evenings as needed , with flexible work-from-home options when possible.

Salary Description
Annual salary range : $90,000 - $100,000
