Job description

This position in the Church History Museum Store provides opportunities for our patrons to connect to Church history and the growing spiritual, artistic, and cultural legacies of the Latter-day Saints. Through exceptional customer service, a store clerk helps patrons have a store experience that allows them to remember the spirit they felt and the heritage of faith they witnessed during their museum visit.

The role of a museum store clerk is a retail professional with excellent customer service and administrative skills. The successful candidate will possess the ability to greet patrons and make them feel welcome, help patrons find items to meet their needs and process computer-based point-of-sale transactions, as well as take and fill phone orders. The store clerk will also assist in ordering, receiving, and stocking inventory. Some administrative tasks may also be required as assigned by the manager.

This position is part-time, up to 20 hours a week.

  • Meets a high standard of customer service, providing product knowledge to assist customers.
  • Highly capable of learning store product information, including art, books, and vendor lines.
  • Assists patrons in selecting merchandise to enhance their overall museum experience.
  • Processes sales through computer-based point-of-sale program.
  • Demonstrates basic math and cash handling skills.
  • Supports service missionaries with customer service and point-of-sale transactions.
  • Performs store opening and closing procedures.
  • Assists with inventory management, including ordering, receiving, and stocking.
  • Performs basic administrative and accounting tasks such as processing invoices and tracking product orders, reporting daily sales, and maintaining product logs.
  • Contributes to strategic planning for the museum store and works as part of the museum store team.
  • Assists with implementing continuous improvement initiatives in all areas of the store.
  • May perform some housekeeping duties to ensure facility, equipment, and storage areas are in good condition.
  • Demonstrates a high level of professionalism.
  • Represents the Church and strives to use consistent Christlike communication.
  • Assists in other store operational responsibilities, as needed.

Required :

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years post high school education or training
  • 4+ years of applicable experience
  • This position requires schedule flexibility including some weeknights, Saturdays, and backup coverage for store staff.
  • Administrative and clerical experience.
  • Computer proficiency sufficient to operate and assist others on PC-based cash register.
  • Merchandising and store display experience preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with others and communicate effectively.
  • Must be self-directed, detail-oriented, and able to work independently, as well as under moderate to minimal supervision.
  • To successfully perform the essential functions of the job there may be physical requirements which need to be met, such as : standing for long periods of time, stooping, bending, walking up and down stairs, and lifting to 40 pounds.
