Job description

Responsibilities:

  • Supports day-to-day operation and maintenance of enterprise network infrastructure, including switching, wireless, and WAN connectivity.
  • Assists with configuration and support of Fortinet switches, wireless controllers, and FortiAP deployments across multiple sites.
  • Troubleshoots network connectivity issues across wired, wireless, and site-to-site environments, acting as an escalation point when needed.
  • Works directly with site administrators to resolve local network issues, support troubleshooting efforts, and assist with project-related activities.
  • Performs routine maintenance activities such as firmware updates, configuration backups, and validation checks.
  • Monitors network performance and helps identify and resolve issues impacting availability, reliability, and user experience.
  • Collaborates with the Network Engineer on network upgrades, site implementations, and infrastructure improvements.
  • Supports VLAN configuration and network segmentation aligned to operational and security requirements.
  • Assists in maintaining and troubleshooting WAN connectivity, including support of circuits and site-to-site VPNs.
  • Coordinates with vendors and service providers to assist in resolving circuit, hardware, or connectivity issues.
  • Maintains accurate network documentation, diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
  • Provides support to the Service Desk for escalated network-related incidents and requests.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in network support or engineering roles.
  • Experience working with Fortinet switching and wireless solutions (FortiSwitch, FortiAP, wireless controllers).
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, and wireless networking.
  • Associate degree in IT or related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Ability to configure and troubleshoot switching and wireless network environments in a multi-site enterprise.
  • Working knowledge of Fortinet network management for switching and wireless infrastructure.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills with the ability to resolve issues independently.
  • Ability to effectively engage with site administrators and non-technical users to diagnose and resolve issues.
  • Ability to follow established network standards, configurations, and change management processes.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across IT teams and business users.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a part-time capacity.
  • Familiarity with network monitoring tools and basic performance optimization.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong documentation skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with Palo Alto networking technologies, including SD-WAN deployments or migrations (e.g., transition from Meraki).
  • Experience with Cisco networking technologies (routing and switching) in legacy or hybrid environments.
  • Fortinet certifications (e.g., NSE 3, NSE 4, or equivalent).
  • Experience supporting multi-site or distributed network environments.
  • Experience working within a structured IT support or ITIL environment.
