The Division of Adolescent Medicine in the UNM Department of Pediatrics is hiring a full-time Nurse Educator for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) funded NOWS-NM Training Initiative : Optimizing Care for Neonates at Risk for Opiate Withdrawal Syndrome project. This position requires specialized neonatal nursing experience, expertise in evidence-based NOWS care protocols (., Eat, Sleep, and Console), and experience training healthcare providers on best practices for caring for infants with NOWS. The successful candidate will play a key role in facilitating evidence-based training for healthcare providers, developing educational materials and protocols, supporting quality improvement (QI) methodology, research management, and regulatory reporting (., funding agencies, IRB).
Duties and Responsibilities
- Design and deliver comprehensive training modules and materials for healthcare providers on Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome (NOWS) care, encompassing feeding, nutrition, and the Eat, Sleep, Console (ESC) curriculum. This includes facilitating both remote and in-person training sessions.
- Develop project protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for project sites. Serve as the primary liaison between these sites and the Principal Investigator, ensuring effective communication and adherence to protocols.
- Manage regulatory aspects of the project, including preparing IRB approval documents, maintaining the regulatory binder, tracking required training for project team members, and preparing reports for funding agencies and investigators.
- Oversee ongoing quality assurance and monitoring of project sites. Support project sites in their internal quality improvement (QI) processes related to ESC SOPs.
Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications
Associate's degree in Nursing; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Certification / Licensure : State of New Mexico Licensed Registered Nurse or licensure pending as documented by temporary licensure OR current RN licensure from a state participating in the multi-state privilege to practice compact with New Mexico.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
