Job description

Principal, Physician Educator Lead, MSAG

With over 50 years of proven success, ECG, ranked as a Best Midsized Firm to Work For 2025 by Consulting Magazine, is the most experienced healthcare consulting firm in the US. Working exclusively in this space, our people consistently demonstrate their ability to solve challenges for providers and achieve better patient outcomes. Across our eight office locations, we're seeking individuals who will show the courage to find innovative solutions and make a direct impact on the delivery of healthcare services nationwide.

ECG is a national consulting firm that is redefining healthcare together with its clients. We provide a broad range of strategic, financial, operational, and technology-enabled consulting services to the full continuum of care, including hospitals, health systems, medical groups, academic medical centers, children's hospitals, cancer centers, ambulatory surgery centers, investors, and payers/health plans.

Our work focuses on creating practical, tailored solutions that help clients maximize resources and achieve sustainable results. We value collaboration, integrity, and innovation, and are committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment.

MSAG has supported medical schools through continuous quality improvement efforts, including accreditation, for more than 20 years. MSAG helps medical schools navigate the complexity of the undergraduate medical education (UME) accreditation process, including accreditation planning, response to LCME concerns, continuous improvement planning, and leadership development. Project teams composed of educators, physicians, administrators, and experts in continuous quality improvement bring deep experience in higher education and the health professions. MSAG joined ECG in October 2024, creating a combined team positioned to address issues or opportunities across all aspects of medical education, research, and/or patient care.

Since our founding in 1973, ECG has maintained a dedicated practice of professionals devoted exclusively to working in the subsector of academic healthcare. Experts within our Academic Healthcare Division subspecialize in each mission, including research, education, and the clinical enterprise.

As the Physician Educator Lead, you will be a market-facing leader for MSAG, advising medical schools and programs on accreditation matters and related engagements. In this role, you will be responsible for business development, project delivery, thought leadership, and the recruitment, staffing, and professional development of consultants. As part of a dyad leadership model, you will partner with another ECG principal with deep expertise in academic healthcare, including medical schools and health sciences centers, and a proven track record in growing consulting practices to advance the MSAG business and foster a culture of continuous quality improvement. The Physician Educator Lead will hold the title of Principal within ECG. The selected candidate will work closely with the current MSAG leader during a defined transition period, allowing for knowledge transfer, relationship continuity, and a smooth assumption of responsibilities.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Lead business development efforts, develop new client relationships, and drive revenue growth.
  • Work with client organizations to understand their needs, develop proposals/contracts, and close new engagements as the primary contact.
  • Identify new and emerging client service needs and responsively develop new service offerings and/or business plans to expand the existing practice and extend into related areas.
  • Actively lead and manage client engagements, including document review, gap and/or mock survey visits, longitudinal work, and final project deliverables.
  • Identify which consultant(s) are best suited to address each client's needs and assign project teams.
  • Delegate project responsibilities to consultants, providing appropriate training and oversight.
  • Manage and mentor team members to provide high-quality, effective consultative services.
  • Determine MSAG recruitment needs in collaboration with your dyad partner and other practice leaders.
  • Identify and recruit new consultants with general accreditation and subcontent expertise (student affairs, curriculum, admissions, etc.).
  • Provide professional development to consultants.
  • Integrate accreditation expertise into ECG's professional development activities and platforms.
  • Be a thought leader, individually and in collaboration with others, on accreditation and other education-related topics, including participation in industry research and analysis to advance knowledge and inform new approaches and service offerings.

Qualifications:

  • An MD degree
  • Experience as the Dean or Vice Dean/Sr. Associate Dean of a school of medicine with specific responsibility for oversight of the MD degreegranting program and accreditation-related matters
  • Demonstrated accreditation expertise
  • Demonstrated experience with the Liaison Committee on Medical Education as a committee or subcommittee member, a survey team member, etc.
  • Strong written and verbal presentation skills and facilitation skills
  • Ability to travel as needed for client engagements

Job Locations:

  • Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Minneapolis, San Diego, Washington, DC, or remote

Schedule:

Full time/exempt; open to part-time alternatives
