Position Summary

The Nurse Educator/Resource Nurse is a registered nurse who serves as a primary clinical educator and on‑unit nursing resource for psychiatric nursing staff. This role is primarily focused on training, education, and staff development, delivered through classroom‑based instruction and real‑time, on‑unit coaching to support safe, therapeutic, and evidence‑based care.

The position reports directly to Nursing Leadership, with a dotted‑line relationship to Human Resources to support clinical onboarding, mandatory trainings, annual education requirements, and semi‑annual Skills Fair education planning. To ensure required nursing education is accessible across all shifts, the Nurse Educator/Resource Nurse may occasionally adjust work hours to meet operational needs related to mandatory training delivery, in accordance with non‑exempt scheduling practices.

In addition to education responsibilities, the Nurse Educator/Resource Nurse functions as a hands‑on clinical resource when needed, providing on‑unit support to promote patient safety, staff confidence, and effective unit operations. This role supports regulatory compliance and quality of care through education, coaching, and modeling of best practices and does not include direct supervisory or disciplinary authority.

Required

  • Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of Behavioral Health or Psychiatric nursing experience.
  • Demonstrated clinical competence in psychiatric nursing practice.
  • Strong communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred

  • Prior experience in nursing education, charge nurse, or preceptor roles.
  • Certification in Psychiatric‑Mental Health Nursing (RN‑BC or equivalent).
  • Experience with restraint and seclusion training or Behavioral Health regulatory compliance.
  • Experience with quality improvement or staff development initiatives.

Qualifications

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a clinical educator and on‑unit resource for psychiatric nursing staff
  • Plan and deliver nursing education through classroom instruction and real‑time, on‑unit coaching
  • Provide training related to psychiatric assessment, documentation, milieu management, de‑escalation, restraint and seclusion standards, medication administration, and patient safety
  • Support ongoing staff development and reinforce evidence‑based nursing practice
  • Function as a hands‑on resource nurse during high‑acuity situations and complex clinical scenarios
  • New‑hire clinical onboarding
  • Annual mandatory nursing trainings
  • Semi‑annual education planning and Skills Fairs
  • Assist with coordination of staff attendance for new and recurring mandatory trainings
  • May occasionally adjust work hours to support mandatory nursing education, consistent with non‑exempt scheduling practices
  • This role does not include supervisory or disciplinary responsibilities
