Job Summary :

As a member of the leadership team for the Treatment Center, the Nurse Manager works on site at the Treatment Center to ensure nursing coverage to support medication dispensing and the monitoring of symptoms, provide supervision and oversight to the nurses, and ensure compliance to DEA, DPH / BSAS regulations and certification standards. The Nurse Manager contributes to the Bay Cove's mission by ensuring quality care is provided to individuals on their recovery journey. This individual will report to the Program Director (Administrative) and Chief Nursing Officer (Nursing).

This is an exempt position.

Supervisory Responsibilities :

Direct supervision of the Assistant Nurse Manager, Dispensing Nurses, and the Medical Technician

Serves as an supervisory resource to all staff in the absence of the Program Director.

Essential Functions of the Position :

Recruit, build, and maintain a team of talented nurses and schedule nurses to ensure on-site nursing coverage to support medication dispensing and monitoring of symptoms.

Manage all nursing operations, including the provision of quality of patient care, including troubleshooting and problem solving factors resulting in service disruptions to ensure continuous operations.

Provide all Treatment Center staff with training regarding changes to, and updates on, all medical aspects of substance use, withdrawal management, and behavioral health diagnoses and train all Nurses on nursing policies, procedures, and practices to ensure competency and consistency.

Collaborate with the Chief Nursing Officer, Medical Director, Psych Consultant, program leadership, and the Director of Operations to develop and revise policies, procedures, and clinical protocols.

Lead the nursing staff to work collaboratively with clinical and administrative staff to support the daily physical and health care needs of patients in the program.

Monitor compliance with nursing and medication budget, including staffing, scheduling, productivity analysis, and supply costs.

Provide nursing leadership in staff, supervision, and multidisciplinary meetings, as well as in individual and group supervision, training, and professional development activities.

Adhere to DEA and all state and federal regulations regarding the use of controlled substances in the program at all times and be available for DEA and State representatives during site visits and other licensing or accreditation bodies as needed.

Perform dispensing nurse duties directly as needed to meet the needs of patients, including conducting clinical assessments for opioid medication dispensing, preparation of take-home medications, and providing health education.

Assume leadership of the clinic by providing crisis assessment, prevention, and needed intervention to address medical, behavioral, and safety issues that arise.

Provide on-call coverage, including 24 hour dose verification, on a rotating basis with the Assistant Nurse Manager.

Other job-related duties as assigned.

All BSAS licensed programs must have at least one staff member designated to serve as coordinator of one of the following three topics. If assigned, both supervisor and employee must initial to acknowledge the assignment :

Serve as the program's Access Coordinator by developing and implementing the evaluation, plan, and annual review of the program's performance in ensuring equitable access to services as required by 105 CMR 164.040(A)(11).

Serve as the program's HIV / AIDS Coordinator by overseeing confidential HIV risk assessment and access to counseling and testing; staff, patient, and resident HIV / AIDS and hepatitis education; and Department requirements for admission, service planning and discharge of HIV positive patients or residents.

Serve as the program's Tobacco Education Coordinator by assisting staff in implementing BSAS guidelines for integrating tobacco assessment, education and treatment into program services.

Job Requirements :

Massachusetts registration and license in nursing.

Five (5) years acute care experience preferred.

Two (2) years supervisory experience.

Prior substance use disorder and / or behavioral health treatment experience required.

Prior experience working with individuals who are unhoused is preferred.

Prior experience in harm reduction and trauma responsive patient care preferred.

Demonstrated professional writing, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Intermediate proficiency in word processing and other computer functions using Windows, Word, and Google Email and Apps.

Ongoing detection and interpretation of information on documents, monitors, and labels and accompanying response, as well as to identification of equipment and supplies.

Frequent interaction with providers, colleagues, customers, patients / clients, and visitors requiring the employee to communicate, as well as detect and interpret information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, occasionally during emergency situations.

Frequent communication of accurate information, instructions, and ideas so others will understand.

Operation of complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent phone and computer use for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.

Utilization of the full range of movement to lift, move, or transfer patients up to fifty (50) pounds, as well as assist with weights of more than one-hundred (100) pounds. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment up to twenty (20) pounds.

Frequent movement throughout the unit to access, obtain, or distribute supplies (sometimes pushing or pulling equipment), interact with patients, assist in the transport of patients, etc.

Undertake lifesaving efforts by conducting CPR via the provision of chest compressions and rescue breathing as needed until relieved by medical professionals.

Remain in a stationary position for an extended period of time as needed.
