Job description

Currently recruiting a Nurse Practitioner - Family Practice to provide primary care services at NASNI Primary Care in Coronado, California, supporting Naval Medical Center San Diego and its branch clinic network. Services will be provided Monday through Friday, normally between 6: 00 a.M. And 6: 00 p.M. Shifts will normally be scheduled as 8.5, 9.5, or 10.5 hour periods, including a 60 minute unpaid lunch break. This position supports family practice, routine and acute care, chronic condition management, preventive care, patient education, and clinical coordination in a military healthcare environment.




DUTIES OF THE NURSE PRACTITIONER - FAMILY PRACTICE:
  • Provide a full range of outcome based Nurse Practitioner services in accordance with privileges granted by the Military Treatment Facility.
  • Provide general screening, medical care, and examinations for routine, acute, and chronic conditions involving any and all organ systems.
  • Provide immunizations.
  • Diagnose, treat, and counsel patients as clinically indicated.
  • Diagnose and treat patients with common acute conditions, chronic illnesses, or minor trauma within accepted protocols, clinical practice guidelines, Nurse Practice Acts, and physician consultation as appropriate.
  • Promote preventive care and health maintenance, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self care.
  • Provide formal and individual education and counseling to patients and families.
  • Communicate and collaborate with physicians, nurses, corpsmen, and other members of the healthcare team regarding plans, actions, teaching, and education.
  • Technically direct and teach other staff as appropriate.
  • Provide evidence based educational lectures and participate in in service training for staff members.
  • Recognize conditions that require isolation and ensure universal precautions are used in all patient encounters.
  • Attend staff meetings to provide case discussion, continuing education, continuous quality improvement, and safety input.
  • Participate in peer review and performance improvement activities.
  • Participate in the command s Performance Improvement Program and recommend corrective action when opportunities for improvement are identified.
  • Perform timely, accurate, and concise documentation of patient care.
  • Operate and document in required automated systems, including MHS GENESIS, as applicable.
  • Maintain documentation of all treatment provided in accordance with clinic directives.
  • Comply with infection control, safety, patient privacy, documentation, and facility specific policy requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS OF THE NURSE PRACTITIONER - FAMILY PRACTICE:
  • Master s degree in nursing from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program required.
  • Graduate from an academic program within the nursing specialty field of study that is accredited by a regional or national nursing accrediting agency recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
  • Must be certified in the specialty required by the task order as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, or another recognized national nursing certification organization for the specialty area of practice.
  • Must possess a current, active, valid, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in any U.S. Jurisdiction.
  • Must meet clinical competency requirements specified in the credentialing instructions.
  • Family practice, primary care, military healthcare, federal healthcare, or DoD/DHA healthcare experience preferred.
  • Must be able to complete required credentialing before providing services.
  • Must be able to complete required health, immunization, tuberculosis, and Hepatitis B screening requirements before providing services.
  • Must be able to complete required background/security processes, including fingerprinting and childcare background check requirements, for access to a Navy and Defense Health Agency medical facility.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen for access to U.S. Government networks.
  • Must comply with all applicable facility policies, procedures, training, safety, infection control, documentation, and patient privacy requirements.
