Position Overview

Merrimack Health System is seeking a skilled Physician Assistant to join our surgical team full-time. This position is full-time (40hrs/ week). This role consists of general surgery and orthopedic surgery in a busy community-based hospital. The Physician Assistant will practice at Merrimack Health Lawrence and Methuen Hospitals. This is an excellent opportunity for a Physician Assistant who values teamwork, community impact and high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities

• First assist during surgical procedures, inclusive of general and orthopedic surgery.
• Order and interpret diagnostic testing.
• Perform surgical tasks such as suturing, wound closure hemostasis and retraction.
• Manage postoperative recovery and complications.\
• Conduct rounds and monitor patient progress.
• Works closely within a multispecialty health system, collaborating with primary care, orthopedics, cardiology, urology, and other clinical services.
• Establishes a process for collaborating with the surgeon, particularly for acute patient issues.
• Participate in discharge planning and follow-up.
• Document all patient's care in Meditech Expanse, the system-wide electronic medical record.
• Contribute to quality initiatives, performance improvement, and the system’s mission of equity-focused, community-centered care.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

- Graduate of an accredited physician assistant program with certification.
- Current BLS and ACLS certification.
- Eligible for medical licensure in the state of Massachusetts.
- Demonstrated commitment to community-based, equitable, culturally competent care.
- Surgical experience in general surgery and/or orthopedics highly preferred.

Schedule & Location

- Merrimack Health Lawrence and Methuen Hospitals: 40/hrs/ week
