Job Summary:
This position is responsible for conducting occupational therapy assessments and treatments in gross and fine motor functioning for pre-school through school-aged children, as well as related perceptual motor skills, sensory regulation and self-care and school related activities. The occupational therapist is responsible for integrating his/her findings and communicating with parents, other team members, and community professionals. The occupational therapist plans, organizes, and conducts occupational therapy in an outpatient clinic setting to facilitate the development and rehabilitation of children, adolescents, and young adults with mental health needs and physical limitations by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Administer tests, score and interpret occupational therapy testing data.
- Perform a comprehensive clinical interview with parents.
- Perform an on-site school observation when needed.
- Collaborate with the team when appropriate to compile a diagnostic team report or summary.
- Write a detailed Occupational Therapy Assessment report and/or contribute to a Diagnostic Team Summary/Report.
- Provide therapy services.
- Prepare appropriate and comprehensive Home Programs for caregivers.
- Participate in outreach, care consultation program, parent education, group treatment, and professional development as requested by the manager.
- Fulfill patient billable hour expectation and documentation standards as assigned by Clinical Director.
- Participate in student internship or training program.
- Conduct groups either individually or with other clinicians.
- Assist with development of programs.
- Assist with maintenance and selection of equipment.
- Provide practice in functional, prevocational, and vocational skills, and activities of daily living.
- Coordinate participation in sensorimotor, educational, recreational, and social activities designed to help clients develop or regain physical or mental functioning.
- Consult with other members of clinical team to select activity program consistent with needs and capabilities of individual and to coordinate occupational therapy with other therapeutic activities.
- Teach clients skills and techniques required for participation in activities and evaluate progress.
- Requisition supplies and equipment.
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Knowledge/Ability/Skills:
- Ability and desire to work as part of interdisciplinary clinic.
- Practical clinical experience preferably in interdisciplinary setting.
- Possesses exceptional customer service, interpersonal and written communication skills with demonstrated sensitivity to and flexibility with varied clients and situations.
- Willingness and flexibility to schedule appointments when clients and families are available, especially after school.
- Knowledge and ability to use computers.
- Languages other than English preferred.
- Swallow Certification with the state of California preferred.
- Knowledge and use of evidence based practice.
Education/Training:
- Entry level OT degree (Master’s degree preferred) from an accredited college or university.
- Valid California licensure or equivalent OTR certification
- Three years post licensure experience in pediatric clinic or school setting preferred.
