Occupational therapy aide Jobs in Syracuse, NY

Currently CP Unlimited is seeking a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) to join our team of professionals to work in our Bronx Community Living Program . The COTA is responsible for implementing prescribed occupational therapy treatment programs that have been selected and delegated by the supervising Occupational Therapist. Provides services that will maintain and / or restore function secondary to acute or chronic disability, conducts annual screens, and daily documentation.

Specific Position duties of the COTA Include :

• Reviews medical records, verifies MD’s orders and occupational therapist’s assessment prior to implementing OT treatment. Maintains active / up to date MD prescriptions as outlined by NYS Department of Health (DOH) and Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) depending upon work assignment.
• Communicates with supervisor regarding persons receiving services in the areas of cognitive / perceptual skills, sensor-motor, musculoskeletal status, CNS status, the use of assistive technology and adaptive equipment needs (e.g., ADL devices).
• Confers with physician and other health care practitioners to obtain additional information on persons receiving services. Integrates input from persons receiving services, family, and direct care staff in treatment.
• Writes specific, objective, and measurable documentation, which is outcome oriented and details the persons receiving service’s needs, potential to benefit from treatment, and progress achieved to date.
• Provides training to persons receiving services, families and / or direct care staff in specific supportive programs.
• Participates and attends care plan / team meetings as needed for persons receivingOT services.
• Implements a treatment plan, generated by the OT, which may include ROM, therapeutic exercise, cognitive / perceptual re-training, ADL, wheelchair mobility, pre-vocational skills, and application of physical agent modalities : hot packs, cold packs, and paraffin.
