Description
FTC is looking for a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant who has the following capabilities:
- Education and Certification: The candidate should have successfully completed an accredited program for Occupational Therapy Assistants and hold a valid certification as a COTA. They should meet the educational requirements set by the relevant licensing board or regulatory agency in their jurisdiction.
- Knowledge of Occupational Therapy: The candidate should have a strong understanding of occupational therapy principles, techniques, and interventions. They should be familiar with assessments, treatment plans, and strategies aimed at enhancing motor skills, sensory integration, self-regulation, feeding abilities, and other functional abilities.
- Collaboration and Communication: The candidate should be capable of working collaboratively with a Registered Occupational Therapist (OTR) and other team members. They should have effective communication skills to follow instructions, provide updates, and report student progress to the OTR.
- Documentation and Reporting: The candidate should be proficient in documenting and maintaining client records accurately. They should have the ability to record student progress, complete necessary forms, and prepare reports as required by the OTR.
- Organization and Preparation: The candidate should demonstrate organizational skills in preparing therapy materials and equipment based on student needs and abilities. They should be able to maintain an orderly and clean treatment environment, display materials, and arrange equipment to facilitate instructional requirements.
- Data Collection and Analysis: The candidate should be competent in tallying data, collecting relevant information, and assisting in the preparation of charts, records, graphs, and reports. They should have a basic understanding of data collection methods and be able to assist in compiling performance measures.
- Behavior Management: The candidate should be capable of implementing behavior management programs designed by certified staff. They should have the ability to observe and report significant behavior, behavioral patterns, and other problems to the OTR.
- Professionalism and Ethical Conduct: The candidate should demonstrate professionalism in their interactions with students, families, and other professionals. They should adhere to ethical standards and maintain confidentiality regarding student information and records.
- Continuous Learning and Development: The candidate should display a willingness to stay updated with advancements in the field of occupational therapy. They should engage in professional development activities and seek opportunities to enhance their knowledge and skills.
Under the direction and supervision of a Registered Occupational Therapist (OTR), the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) assists in supplementing, enhancing, and extending occupational therapy services by completing a variety of tasks such as, but not limited to, activities designed by OTR to assist with assessment, intervention, treatment and activities to enhance motor, sensory, self-regulatory, feeding, and other functional abilities. NOTE: Afternoons, Evening and Weekend availability required.
Responsibilities:
- Assists OTR with screenings, assessments and occupational therapy services.
- Follows and implements documented IEP plans or protocols.
- Documents student progress toward meeting established objectives and reports the information to the OTR.
- Assist the OTR during assessment with formal documentation, preparing materials, and performing clerical duties.
- Prepares therapy materials and/or equipment as determined by student needs and abilities for teacher use in the classroom
- Assists in maintaining client records, tallying data, preparing charts, records, graphs, and reports.
- Assists in organizing activities such as displaying materials, arranging equipment to facilitate instructional requirements, and creates an orderly and clean treatment environment
- May implement behavior management programs designed by certified staff, observes, and reports significant behavior, behavioral patterns, and or other problems to the OTR.
- Develop, report, and present performance measures to team lead on a recurring basis.
- Associate degree in and or graduation from a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant certificate program, OR Bachelors degree in Occupational Therapy with a minimum of 70 hours field work/clinical experience from a Board-approved program.
- Must demonstrate competence in effective communication
- Experience in a clinical setting preferred.
- Current certification by the New Jersey Board of Occupational Therapy as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) at the time of appointment and must maintain current certification throughout employment.
Salary
$35 - $38 per hour
