Job Summary :
The position is responsible for the overall management and operations of the Office of Population Surveillance within the Bureau of
Assessment and Evaluation. This position provides overall strategic direction, oversight, and financial management of the Behavioral
Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS), the Youth Risk Behavior
Survey (YRBS), among others. The position reports to the Bureau Chief and is part of the management team in the Bureau of
Assessment and Evaluation. This position ensures successful program outcomes, in accordance with federal cooperative agreements
and state funding. This position, at times, will also monitor, manage and lead the reporting of program related grants and / or contracts.
The position will work with program staff to identify opportunities for integration and collaboration within the agency and with community
partners and will develop / maintain critical relationships with internal and external partners. This position will provide leadership and
direction office staff including program managers, program specialists, epidemiologists, and analysts; develop, implement, and monitor
work plans and budgets with staff; oversee all aspects of data collection, including survey design, sample selection, questionnaire
development, data entry, and data-sharing activities; monitor data quality and ensure adherence to surveillance protocols along with
privacy and confidentiality practices; and supervise data analyses and dissemination activities that will provide actionable insights for
public health decision-making. The position will also provide reports and presentations to stakeholders and maintain communication
with funding agencies and adhere to their reporting requirements. The position is expected to make independent decisions and
judgments based on their professional education, programmatic experience, and training.
This position is available for remote work on a full-time basis within Arizona (including virtual office arrangements).
This position may be available for remote work within Arizona (# days per week in the office / hoteling).
This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties :
Provides overall strategic direction and administration of programs, and ensure successful program outcomes, in accordance with the funding requirements.
Develops & maintains critical relationships with internal & external partners and represents the Bureau of Assessment and Evaluation at meetings, conferences, and events.
Manage and direct subordinate staff (work assignments, setting priorities, hiring, discipline, provide training, approving leave requests, and preparing evaluations).
Prepares and submits various reports, plans, and other documents to offices within ADHS, federal partners, and other key partners.
Developing, implementing, and monitoring work plans and budgets for the office's various programs. This includes ensuring efficient resource allocation, tracking expenses, and making adjustments as needed. Other duties as assigned as related to the position.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs) :
Knowledge of :
- Solid understanding of public health principles, including epidemiology,
surveillance methods, and risk factors for major health problems
Skill in :
program staff, agency leadership, and community partners

Ability to :
Selective Preference(s) :
Master's degree in public health or a related field with 3 years of professional experience (outside of school) to include progressive
experience in a management role. Candidate must have experience in public health surveillance, survey methodology, and data
analysis.

Retirement :
To help you build a financially secure future, the State makes monthly contributions to finance your retirement benefit. The State will contribute to the ASRS in an amount equal to your contribution.
