Job Description
The Graduate Engineer I is an entry-level role which will perform site investigative evaluations and understand civil / structural testing data to assist in determining the root cause of structural engineering and building envelope failures. In a learning role, this position will take a hands-on approach to engineering by recording observations, observe destructive testing, and assisting with the background data for a licensed engineer to write his / her unbiased findings into a detailed report. This position will review documents for licensed engineers, submit and review CAD drafts, conduct initial photo review and help with research. This role will require continuous learning in a team-focused environment.
Essential Functions
- Performs investigations and assessments regarding the design, construction, and standard of care associated with planned improvements and the built environment involving geotechnical engineering, soil-structure interactions, structural systems, civil sitework, exterior cladding systems, building envelopes (moisture and thermal), peril damage, and personal injury.
- Evaluates single-family residences, multi-family apartment / condominium complexes, commercial facilities, warehouses, institutional facilities, and industrial facilities as well as ancillary structures such as retaining walls, screen walls, and swimming pools.
- Conducts construction phase observations as required to verify progress / compliance of the project during the construction process.
- Reviews client documents to understand the key components of forensic site visits and what licensed engineers should focus on in his / her investigation.
- Performs technical research as needed to support the investigation.
- Submits CAD for drafting and reviews output from engineering technicians for accuracy and thoroughness.
- Analyzes photos, reports, and pertinent information from document review to determine key focus areas of investigation.
- Applies engineering theory, education, and previous work knowledge to real world situations.
- Consistently meets all required company expectations and deadlines, particularly during heavy workload.
- Consistently and effectively communicates with engineering team daily.
- Meets with clients as needed to review findings and make recommendations.
- Establishes trusting, working relationships based on knowledge, experience, and integrity.

This position is a combination of site visits, travel-related work, and sedentary work. An employee is regularly required to drive, stand, sit, walk, reach, type, talk, hear, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, push, pull, carry, and lift up to 20 pounds and occasionally move up to 50 pounds. An employee may also be required to traverse uneven terrain, enter structures, use ladders, climb scaffolding, walk on roofs, enter crawl spaces and other tight areas, as well as work in a variety of weather conditions.
