Summary
Power Plant Shift Supervisor | Gas & Oil Generation
As aShift Supervisor at the West Phoenix Power Plant, you'll provide essential technical leadership to an Operations team of union-skilled craft employees, ensuring the continuous, safe, and efficient operation of our West Phoenix Power Plant. In this role, you will lead the team to optimize power generation, maintain operational reliability, and prioritize safety in all aspects of plant function. As a Shift Supervisor, you'll provide critical oversight and guidance during non-routine work hours (nights, weekends, and holidays), often serving as the Incident Commander and overseeing all on-site personnel when normal supervision is not present.
Key Skills and Responsibilities :
Operations Oversight : Ensure continuous, reliable, and efficient power generation by directing the operations teams in the safe operation and maintenance of the plant and DOT-regulated pipelines.
Incident Command & Crisis Management : Act as Incident Commander when needed, coordinating, and overseeing incident response and decision-making to ensure safety and quick resolution.
Union Workforce Management : Effectively lead a team of union personnel, fostering a collaborative and productive environment while respecting union protocols and ensuring compliance.
Technical Support & Problem-Solving : Provide technical guidance, address operational challenges, and troubleshoot issues as they arise to maintain safe, efficient plant operation.
Safety & Compliance : Uphold safety standards and regulatory compliance, prioritizing operational safety and implementing best practices for risk management.
DOT Pipeline Program : Hold responsibility over the operation of DOT-regulated pipelines, which includes recognizing abnormal operating conditions, directing operations personnel to perform covered tasks, making necessary notifications as required by the operationand maintenanceplans, and initiating necessary corrective actions.
We're looking for Power Plant Professionals who have :
- Experience supervising union personnel in an operations or industrial setting, with a strong understanding of union work dynamics and protocols.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with experience overseeing skilled craft employees in high-stakes environments, particularly during off-hours.
- Experience with Gas & Oil power generation or similar industrial operations, with a focus on safety and efficiency.
- Proven ability to act as Incident Commander or lead in crisis situations, managing quick decision-making to ensure safety and operational continuity.
- A collaborative and proactive approach to managing team dynamics, building rapport with union members, and addressing operational challenges.
- Strong problem-solving skills and technical knowledge, with the capacity to troubleshoot and resolve issues in real time to support seamless plant operations.

Major Accountabilities
1) Guides and leads team members by providing supervision, coaching, mentoring, performance management, training and discipline.
Administers processes and procedures in accordance with union contract. Communicates company programs, announcements, policies, etc. to employees. Provides feedback from employees to management.
2) Supervises personnel to ensure the units respond to fluctuations in demand and that operations and maintenance activities are completed in accordance with the standards and expectations for the day-to-day operation of the plant (Fossil Generation Conduct of Shift Operations).
3) Leads the plant configuration control programs that are designed to ensure the plant components and systems are always configured in a known manner and capable of performing their design function.
4) Enhances overall plant performance through involvement in day-to-day activities by monitoring, coaching and leading in areas that may indirectly affect operations, such as material condition and work control processes.
5) Assists the Work Management process by reviewing incoming work orders and backlogs for placement in work weeks. Develops and writes lock out / tag outs (LOTOs).
Performs periodic review of work packages. Supports the work performed during execution week (t-0).
6) Supports maintenance activities by assuming the APS representative duties as needed and coordinating contract work on back-shifts and weekends.
7) Participates in all aspects of Operations Department management to support safe and efficient operation of the plant including the development, implementation and performance monitoring of all corporate, site and business goals and objectives.

CIP Requirement :
This position requires Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) access consistent with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards. The applicant considered for this role will be required to obtain and maintain CIP access for the duration of employment in this position. A full seven (7) year criminal history will be obtained through the pre-employment background check process (or, for current employees, through supplemental background check process) to fulfill the CIP access requirements. In addition, this position requires an additional background check every seven years to maintain access.
