Status - Full-time
Position Summary : Responsible for assisting in teaching grades 9-12 with proven results in student learning. The Teacher Assistant will be expected to teach for an extended school year, consisting of approximately 190 student days and 200 teacher school days, with an optional summer program. The Teacher Assistant will provide student services to those students enrolled, ensuring the effective completion of the curriculum that they are responsible for. The Teacher Assistant will develop creative forms of instruction to meet the needs of a diverse urban student population, while establishing and enforcing non-instructional duties throughout the educational process. The Teacher will work collectively in a Professional Learning Community (PLC).
Compensation : $19.00 - $24.00 / hr
Responsibilities :
1) Provides a diverse perspective when working with Students, parents, colleagues, and PLC members.
2) Maintain professional standards per HSCS in an urban environment.
3) Participates in PLC; daily participation and motivation to collaboratively improve PLC.
4) Engages in a diverse community based programming with regional colleagues and healthcare providers.
5) Observes and evaluates the students' performance, progress, behavior, social development and physical health.
6) Support instruction to students effectively through lectures, discussions, class activities, demonstrations and other creative forms of education of the curriculum their courses require and maintain a balance of these different educational strategies.
7) Implements teaching methods according to what is appropriate to students' needs and interests.
8) Establishes and enforces rules of classroom conduct throughout the educational process while adhering to all administrative policies and rules governing the students.
9) Assist in preparing, administering and grading tests and assignments that are a reflection of what students will be evaluated on during NYS Regents, Advanced Regents and Advanced Placement testing.
10) Working with individual pupils or groups of pupils on special instructional projects
11) Providing the teacher with information about pupils that will assist the teacher in the development of appropriate learning experiences
12) Assisting pupils in the use of available instructional resources, and assisting in the development of appropriate learning experiences
13) Utilizing their own special skills and abilities by assisting in instructional programs
14) Communicating effectively with the instructional team, including the classroom teacher, other professional staff and parents
15) Attending to the physical needs of the students, as appropriate
16) Assisting in related institutional work to include some grading and data management
17) New York State Commissioner Regulations, Section 80-5.6(b)
18) 8am -4pm work day with 30 minute duty-free lunch
19) Assist teachers with record keeping, attendance, grades, and progress
20) Supervise students in classroom, hallways, cafeteria, and / or on field trips
21) Possible duties to include teaching in your content area, and credit recovery.
22) Subbing in classrooms as assigned.
23) Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
- Preferred Certified Teaching Assistant
- Preferred research and / or field experience.
- Proficiency in microsoft office, electronic management, grading, and other instructional technologies.
- Teaching in an urban setting is strongly desired.
- Strong verbal and communication skills.
