Job Overview

The Georgetown Tech & Society Initiative is a vibrant cross-campus ecosystem creating novel approaches for interdisciplinary collaboration, research, understanding, and action – all at the intersection of technology, ethics, and governance.

Tech & Society is looking for a process-oriented yet adaptive candidate to join our team as an Operations Associate supporting three Tech & Society centers: the Knight-Georgetown Institute (KGI); the Center for Digital Ethics (CDE); and the Institute for Technology Law & Policy (ITLP). With partnership and oversight from the Executive Directors of KGI, CDE, and ITLP, the Operations Associate will play an integral role in day-to-day functions and future planning, ensuring that each center’s operations and administrative needs are met.

The Operations Associate will be a key team member, initiating and overseeing processes related to people operations, internal and external communications, event management, budgeting, administration, procurement, and contracts.

A successful candidate will be proactive and detail-oriented, and will thrive in a collaborative environment. This position requires a self-starter who has experience with event and/or organizational budgeting and can flex their skills across a wide range of operational and administrative responsibilities.

This is a hybrid position and applicants for this role must be based in Washington, D.C.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and 2-3 years of experience in operations, finance, human resources, administration, or other relevant field, or equivalent relevant work experience (i.e., each year of required education may be substituted with one year of relevant work experience).
  • Commitment to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB).
  • Patience, diligence and resourcefulness in navigating complex bureaucratic processes.
  • Familiarity running procurement and contracting processes.
  • Experience with basic budgeting and reconciliation of expenses.
  • Experience in human resources management, including recruiting, hiring, onboarding and performance management.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite products, spreadsheets (Excel/Google Sheets), project management, and collaborative platforms; and a quick learning curve to adapt to new programs.
  • Ability to analyze various sources of data, identify and derive key metrics, and propose solutions based on these data.
  • Ability to manage – and be both organized and flexible – in a complex, multi-faced environment that requires continuous monitoring of priorities across three distinct centers.
  • Exceptional communications skills, to include maintenance of confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience maintaining or working with external communications platforms, such as social media channels and content management system tools (e.g., WordPress).
  • Prior experience managing event logistics.
  • Prior experience in an academic or think tank setting.
  • An interest in public policy issues at the intersection of technology and society.
  • Prior experience working with Georgetown University and/or Georgetown Law business processes and Georgetown Management System (GMS).
Salary

The annual salary range for this position is $47,586.00 – $70,000.00 maximum. Georgetown University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity and external market pay for comparable jobs.

Work Interactions

The Operations Associate’s time will be allocated 50% to KGI, and the position will report directly to the KGI Communications Director for work within KGI and for general administrative purposes. The Operations Associate’s time will be allocated 25% to CDE and 25% to ITLP, and the position will have secondary, dotted-line reporting to the Executive Directors of CDE and ITLP for purposes of the work within those centers. The Operations Associate will work collaboratively across these three organizations, and will partner with university contacts in finance, HR, procurement, facilities, and other functions as necessary. A successful candidate will also build relationships with other centers and contacts inside and outside of Georgetown University and Georgetown Law, sharing resources and leading practices.

Application

Interested applicants should apply by submitting their CV and cover letter through the Georgetown Careers website. Please submit a cover letter describing your experience and interest in this role. The cover letter should be submitted as an additional attachment in the Resume/CV section of your application. Applications are requested by April 6, 2026.

The Tech & Society Initiative

The Tech & Society Initiative creates novel approaches for interdisciplinary collaboration, research, and understanding at the intersection of technology, ethics, and governance at Georgetown University. We bring together ten centers and programs at Georgetown that are deeply immersed in particular parts of the technology and society equation: ethics, privacy, national security, law, policy, governance, and data—and we are building connective tissue between them. We identify the points of connection between them, and then create opportunities for them to collaborate in tangible and productive ways.

Knight-Georgetown Institute

The Knight-Georgetown Institute (KGI) serves as a central hub for translating research into practical resources that policymakers, journalists, and private and public sector leaders can use to tackle information and technology issues in real time, ranging from artificial intelligence to the spread of misinformation and disinformation.

KGI helps policymakers and tech industry leaders address pressing issues related to technology, policy, and ethics and make informed decisions on how technology is used to shape, produce, and share information across platforms. The institute will also train the next generation of leaders to shape the future of information and technology for the common good.

Institute for Technology Law & Policy at the Georgetown University Law Center

The Tech Institute (ITLP) is a hub for policymakers, academics, advocates, and technologists to study and discuss how to center humans and the social good, using technology as a tool. With the leading academic program for law and technology in the United States, the institute trains the next generation of lawyers and lawmakers with deep expertise in technology law and policy, provides nonpartisan insights to policymakers on issues related to new and emerging technologies, and fosters interdisciplinary approaches to solving complex technology law and policy problems.

Center for Digital Ethics

The Center for Digital Ethics (CDE) is a dynamic, university-wide collaboration committed to building a new center for digital ethics that will help shape this emerging field. Our goal is to help the world cope with fundamental questions arising from the new field of digital ethics.
