Job descriptionHigh School diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred. Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience with Ciena Optical equipment, specifically the Ciena 6500 series. Identifier as a level 3 or 4 installer and / or tester. Familiarity with central office environments and Telcordia installation standards. A minimum of 5 years of experience in Data Center / PoP / CO installations is preferred. Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with basic power tools. Ability to adapt to various work environments. Comprehensive understanding of optical routing equipment installations, fiber optic cable installation & testing practices, and AC / DC power. Excellent knowledge of infrastructure installation, including equipment racks, cable racks, and fiber ducts.
Position Summary & Key Areas of Responsibility :
Are you an experienced technician with a passion for optical technology? Join our team, where your skills in installing and managing optical equipment will make an impact! In this role, you will be responsible for :
- Installing Ciena hardware on customer sites and conducting preliminary testing to ensure job completion.
- Managing hardware inventory and job-related materials effectively.
- Building optical products independently according to specifications and drawings.
- Leading and supervising assignments while meeting delivery commitments to customers.
- Following established safety practices and implementing quality control processes.
- Performing power verification and preliminary testing of out-of-service equipment (OOS).
- Staying current with installation documentation and reading engineering specs, prints, and drawings.
- Demonstrating proper tool usage and conducting all mechanical installation activities.
- Maintaining accurate on-site job records and administration tracking.
- Executing power and grounding installations on equipment and small power plants.
- Planning, managing logistics, and overseeing physical installations at one or multiple sites.
- Lifting a minimum of 25 pounds (12 kilos) as required.
- Engaging professionally with customers while performing work assignments.
