Position Description :
The OSP Fiber Splicer will be responsible for performing fiber optic splicing, terminations, and testing to install and maintain our fiber optic network in outdoor environments to include aerial lines, underground cables and cabinets. This role involves working with specialized equipment, adhering to safety and quality standards, and collaborating with other team members to complete projects efficiently. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of fiber optics, excellent technical skills, and a commitment to precision and quality. Responsibilities will also include splicing design, ability to prepare and read splicing plans, perform the splicing activity, termination and testing of fiber optic plant. This individual should feel comfortable working in a fast-paced environment committed to ensuring that Lyte provides exceptional experience for both the communities we work in and the service we provide to a rapidly growing customer base.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Perform precise fusion splicing of fiber optic cables, ensuring low insertion loss and maintaining signal integrity. Utilize specialized equipment and tools to create permanent and reliable splices.
- Prepare fiber optic cables for splicing by stripping, cleaning, cleaving, and organizing fibers according to industry standards
- Use OTDR, power meters, and fusion machines to test splice quality, identify faults, and certify network performance.
- Inspect, diagnose and resolve fiber optic network issues, including cable damage, poor connections, and signal degradation.
- Maintain accurate records of splicing activities, including splice locations, cable details, and test results.
- Adhere to all safety procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when working in hazardous environments.
- May be required at times to route, pull and install fiber optic cables.
- Respond to emergency situations promptly, working efficiently to repair and restore damaged fiber optic cables and network infrastructure. Participate in on-call rotation schedule for nights and weekends
- Ensure that work areas, tools, equipment and vehicles are safe, clean, and organized.
- Work closely with other technicians, engineers, and project managers to complete installations and repairs. Communicate effectively to coordinate tasks and address any project-related issues.
- Maintain and calibrate fiber optic splicing and testing equipment. Report any equipment malfunctions or issues to the supervisor and assist with repairs as needed.
- Identify and troubleshoot issues related to fiber optic connectivity and performance.

Minimum Qualifications :
Understand FTTH design using XGSPON, GPON, AE, OLT and ONT technologies.
Certifications : Relevant industry certifications (e.g., BICSI, Fiber Optic Association (FOA)) are a plus.
