SALARY RANGE :  $1,052.27 - $1,255.35 Per Week.

PERIOD OF

EMPLOYMENT : October 30, 2023 – December 22, 2023

Group 3 Seasonal Recurring (Up to 46 weeks)

HOURS OF WORK : 36.25 hours Per Week.

LOCATION : Administration Building, 11km East of Morrisburg

Do you have a passion for natural interpretation, ecological integrity, and the natural environment? Parks of the St. Lawrence is looking for an energetic and enthusiastic individual to fill this new and challenging role. The successful candidate will lead the planning, development, coordination, implementation, delivery, training, and evaluation of all interpretive and educational programming within our parks system. Parks of the St. Lawrence is spread across 160 km, and it offers eight campgrounds with three large day-use areas that attract over 600,000 annual visitors. WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO DO IN THIS ROLE?

You will :

  • Assist with the selection, supervision, performance monitoring, training, and scheduling of student staff.
  • Prepare revenue and expenditure estimates for new and existing programs and outreach activities.
  • Conduct guided tours of the facilities and provide presentations at workshops and lectures.
  • Embody the SLPC’s equity, diversity and inclusion principles while interacting with staff and guests.
  • Be required to work weekends, evenings, and holidays October until December.
  • Have the ability and willingness to travel for work and training.

HOW DO I QUALIFY?

MANDATORY :

  • Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license or equivalent to drive on Ontario highways to travel geographically dispersed parks for program delivery.
  • Possess or ability to achieve a certification in public speaking and / or interpretation.
  • KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE :

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in drafting conceptual outlines for new programming initiatives and developing and delivering natural and interpretive presentations for large and diverse groups of people.
  • Knowledge of and ability to learn and teach interpretive techniques, methodology, and specialized vocabulary to disseminate to staff and the public (including traditional and / or inquiry-based learning techniques).
  • In-depth knowledge, experience, and ability to conduct research in the application and the use of new interpretive methods, techniques, and technologies toward interpretive programs development for the enhancement of educational programming.
  • Experience with identifying and applying complex ecological concepts and information in an engaging way through a variety of media; including, scientific and technical reports, interpretive programs and products, video, and social media.
  • COMMUNICATION SKILLS :

  • Well developed oral and written communication skills to produce reports, deliver presentations to individuals and groups, and provide clear direction to staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to exercise good judgement and tact when dealing with staff and various internal / external groups and individuals and to provide excellent customer service.
  • LEADERSHIP, COMPUTER, AND RESEARCH SKILLS :

  • Effective leadership skills to assist with recruiting, interviewing, training, motivating, and supervising staff.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills to review existing and create new programming plans and conceptual outlines for new program initiatives.
  • The ability to assume responsibility, exercise initiative, work with minimal supervision independently and in a team environment.
