Job Summary and Qualifications

The Registered Nurse is responsible for decisions and actions within the domain of nursing practice. Important aspects of this responsibility are the promotion of a safe and therapeutic environment for both the recipients and providers of nursing care; acquisition of specialized knowledge skills and additional formal education to provide specialized care; demonstration and validation of competence in nursing practice; clinical practice consistent with the policies, procedures and standards of this facility; and supervision of other staff as designated within the department.

Position Details :

Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments; following hospital and nursing standards of care set by state board of nursing, state nurse practice act, and other governing agency regulations.

  • Resolves patient problems and needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Provides safe and effective care of the post-anesthesia patient, collaborating with nurse supervisors / managers, physicians, technicians, and allied health practitioners.
  • Performs and documents patient assessments and reassessments following Nursing and Departmental P / P, usingappropriate techniquesfor data collection and analysis, at regular andindicatedintervals and following ASPAN guidelines
  • Assesses forpotential medication, latex, and environmental / skin allergies.Ensuresappropriate precautionsare enacted.
  • Applies principles of growth and development and age specific norms in the assessment process.
  • Assessment and reassessment of infants, children, and adolescents consider expected findings based on age and development status indeterminingpossible variations; educational needs; family / guardian expectation for and involvement in care are integral to process.
  • Assessment and reassessment of older adults consider the normal physiologic changes associated with the aging process and those that may be a result of chronic, debilitated disease processes.
  • Notifies responsible practitioners of significant changes in patient condition,facilitatesmanagement of follow-up care.
  • Assesses patient comfort / anxiety level, provides support measures appropriate to the age and culture of the patient.Assesses readiness for treatment / care.
  • Utilizing data collected in the assessment and in collaboration with other health care providers, formulates a plan of care, and updates as needed to achieve theoptimalpatient outcome.
  • Prioritizes and performs interventions based on critical thinking and technical skills assimilated from assessment,reportsand information communicated by other health care providers to achieveoptimalpatient outcome.
  • Ensures adherence to principles of asepsis throughout the perioperative continuum.
  • Systematically ensures documentation of physician orders and their completion.
  • Selects, applies, implementhospital approved care path, protocols, ordersets.
  • Administers medications usingaccuratecalculations againstage specificguidelines.
  • Provides IV therapy.
  • Uses specialized equipment, medications, and suppliessafetyand effectively, with adaptations according to patient age,sizeand developmental need.
  • Participates in IVCS only if credentialed.
  • Applies special precautions supervising care provided to sedated patients to minimize potential for injury.
  • Assistsphysicians with bedside procedures according to current procedural guidelines.
  • Provides patient / family education in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Achieves the expected patient outcomes or revises plan of care and implementation of care based on the results of the prescribed plan of care.
  • Evaluates and records patient response to interventions (esp. pain management, safety precautions)
  • Ensures that problems arising are promptly communicated and resolved.
  • Providesaccurateand complete report to incoming nursing unit staff.
  • Applies universal precautions according to potential exposure routes.Wearsindicatedprotective barriers without supervision or reminders.
  • Demonstrates effective hand washing, performed at taskappropriate intervals.
  • Maintains environmental control through constant surveillance for breaks in aseptic / sterile techniques, clean / dirtylinenand trash management procedures.
  • Uses hospital approved cleaning solutions, chemicals, and procedures effectively and according to manufacturer's recommendations for safety.
  • Ifindicated,performsappropriate instrumentdecontamination and transport.
  • What qualifications you will need :

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Spt must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • PALS Pediatric Adv Life Supt must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
  • (RN) Registered Nurse
  • Associate Degree, or Bachelors Degree
  • 2 years experience is required. Minimum of 1 year in CC area, preferable PACU
