About the Position
San Luis Obispo County Parks & Recreation Department is excited to announce that they are accepting applications for temporary / seasonal Park Aides! Are you passionate about the great outdoors? Do you thrive in a dynamic and vibrant work environment? As a Seasonal Park Aide, you'll engage in a diverse range of tasks to ensure the smooth operation and upkeep of our county's natural assets. Typical Tasks and Representative Duties :
- Welcoming and assisting visitors, handling fees, and issuing receipts at entry gates.
- Reserving facilities and providing information on recreational activities and site regulations.
- Performing maintenance and sanitation tasks, such as repairing equipment, landscaping, and cleaning.
- Operating personal computers, calculators, cash registers, typewriters, duplicating machines, and short-wave radio when required.
- Patrolling areas to ensure public safety, enforcing park rules, and preserving natural resources.
- Maintaining accurate records and reports of park activities.
- Provide first aid when required.
Employees in these classifications have flexible hours and shift lengths. They will also be expected to work some holidays and weekends.
New employees are required to complete INS Employment Eligibility Verification forms to certify citizenship or legal residency and authorization to work. These are temporary appointments without benefits or tenure. Candidates must also pass a County pre-employment medical exam.

The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience in providing assistance to the public related to the operation and use of recreational and park facilities. Experience in cash handling as well as light maintenance work is preferred. Minimum Qualifications :
Graduation from high school or a GED equivalent.Six months of experience in a related field or completion of two years of college at an accredited institution with a major in recreation, park management, natural resource management, horticulture, forestry, or related field is desirable. Licenses and Certificates : Must obtain and maintain a valid CPR and Standard Red Cross First Aid certificate or its equivalent within six months from date of appointment. A valid driver's license is required at the time of application. A valid CALIFORNIA driver's license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment. Must obtain and maintain a valid CPR and Standard Red Cross First Aid certificate or its equivalent within six months from date of appointment.
