Position Summary
Nursing Navigators are responsible for coordinating and conducting focused academic tutoring sessions in class and outside of class. In addition, Nursing Navigators provide student support services to help students persist in their program of study. Nursing Navigators track student academic progress in specific courses assigned and provide outreach efforts that help to better retain the nursing student and / or provide additional one-to-one academic support to pass nursing courses. Nursing Navigators work with instructors to pinpoint "at risk" students and plan out their improvement path to complete nursing courses.
Salary Schedule Placement : Local Salary Schedule : $16 per hour for up to 19 hours per week.
This is a Grant-funded position. Continued employment is contingent upon funding from the grant. Non-probationary status is not attainable by employment in this position, the funding and duration of which are finite.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops and maintains collaborative working relationships with the Department of Health Professions and faculty to implement innovative retention services for “at-risk” students enrolled in the nursing program.
- Provide tutoring to support academic persistence and success. Monitors student attendance, performance, and academic progress in collaboration with the nursing faculty.
- Coordinates services with relevant college departments and community agencies to better retain students. Attends Nursing Faculty meetings.
- Use other resources to identify obstacles to student achievement and retention.
- Designs, coordinates, and targets new intervention services, teaching approaches, and initiatives focused on student retention and academic development.
- Function as part of an early alert team to support college persistence and retention
