Job Description : Description Summary : Under general supervision by a licensed professional, the Patient Sitter is responsible for monitoring assigned patients within the hospital. They alert staff to patient needs and may assist with basic patient care and feeding. Responsibilities : Under the direction of a licensed professional, provides sitter services for the patient who has an order for 1 : 1 staffing. The Patient Sitter watches over the patient and ensures the patient is in a safe environment at all times.The Patient Sitter will report to the nurse or charge nurse should the patient try to get out of bed, pull on their tubes, or display other behavior that may cause harm to themselves or others. Suicide and high risk patients MUST be attended at all times.The Patient Sitter must have the ability to maintain appropriate precautions for suicidal patients as indicated in the Suicidal Patient Policy. The Patient Sitter must have the ability to maintain visual contact with the patient at all times, including toileting.The Patient Sitter may provide assistance with direct patient care under the direction of a licensed professional. These duties may include turning, feeding, bathing, and bathroom needs.The Patient Sitter must communicate with the patient care team, to include other Patient Sitters, CNAs, LVNs, or RNs, by receiving report at the beginning of the shift regarding the patient's condition and plan of care, and by providing report before leaving the assigned patient.The Patient Sitter must accompany the patient while off the floor for procedures and may not take the patient to smoke, to the cafeteria, gift shop, or anywhere outside the procedural area.Performs other duties as assigned.
