We’ve learned that what is best for patients is also best for employees. Learn more about why we are one of the Best Companies to Work for in Texas.

JOB SUMMARY :

The Patient Transporter delivers patients, equipment, medication, lab specimens, and paperwork from one location to another within University Medical Center, the Medical Office Plaza, the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, and other facilities. The Transporter responds to requests as assigned by the TeleTracking System via telephone and / or according to departmental policy. The Transporter is expected to respond quickly and courteously to calls from various departments throughout the UMC / TTUHSC complex and various MOP clinics. Transporters serve in a support capacity to various hospital departments and clinics.

REPORTS TO :

JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Every month, NSS Shift Supervisors review each Patient Transporter using the Steps to Success program. This is done to determine if Transporters are using the best practices that NSS has established for its staff. The Transporter’s average score on Steps to Success within the evaluation period will be used with the following rubric : 4 : Between 100% and 99% 3 : Between

99% and 97% 2 : Between 97% and 95% 1 : Between 95% and 93% 0 : Less than 93%

  • The high standards set for our Patient Transporters are reinforced by Bi-Annual Reviews. These are done twice yearly by NSS Shift Supervisors to ensure that all Transporters are performing at an acceptable level and according to their training. The average score for Bi-Annual Reviews within the evaluation period is used with the following rubric : 4 : Between 100% and 99% 3 :
  • Between 99% and 96% 2 : Between 96% and 93% 1 : Between 93% and 89% 0 : Less than 89%

  • To ensure that patients are transported around the hospital in a timely fashion, NSS requires Patient Transporters to perform a certain number of jobs per hour averaged across a period of time, as measured by their TeleTracking dispatched to completed time (DTC). The average dispatched to completed time within the evaluation period is used with the following rubric : 4 : Less than 15 minutes 3 : Between 15 and 17 minutes 2 : Between 17 and 19 minutes 1 : Between19 and 20 minutes 0 : Greater than 20 minutes
  • All Patient Transporters must be able to proficiently interact with the TeleTracking system in order to be effective. This is measured by monthly TeleTracking audits to ensure compliance with NSS policies regarding system usage. Those who are not in compliance are met with and counseled. The number of counseling's within the evaluation period will be used with the following rubric : 4 : 0 counseling's 3 : 1 counseling 2 : 2 counseling's 1 : 3 counseling's 0 : 4 or more counseling
  • Proper hand washing practices are vital for all hospital staff, and they directly impact the Safety of our patients. Hand washing is particularly important for Patient Transporters since they are required to interact with many different patients over the course of a shift. This is measured by the hand washing question of the Steps to Success program. NSS has set department goals for Transporter’s hand washing compliance and the average hand washing percentage of Steps to Success within the evaluation period will be used with the following rubric : 4 : Greater than 92% 3 : Between 92% and 88% 2 : Between 88% and 84% 1 : Between 84% and 80% 0 : Less than 80%
  • Patient discharges are a high priority for NSS. Monthly reports are done to determine the average response time for patient discharges done by Patient Transporters. The departmental goal is for discharges to have a response time of less than 15 minutes. The departmental average response time within the evaluation period will be used with the following rubric : 4 : Less than 11 minutes 3 : Between 11 and 13 minutes 2 : Between 13 and 16 minutes 1 : Between 16 and 18 minutes 0 : Greater than 18 minutes
