Vaco is seeking a Payroll Specialist with proven experience in construction payroll and a strong understanding of certified payroll requirements to join one of our top clients in Phoenix. As a Payroll Specialist you must be detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines. This is a contract to hire position with a Hybrid schedule, paying $32 to $35 per hour.
Key Responsibilities :
- Process weekly and bi-weekly payroll for construction employees, including union and non-union workers.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws, including certified payroll reporting requirements (e.g., Davis-Bacon Act).
Prepare and submit certified payroll reports (WH-347) accurately and on time for public works and prevailing wage projects.
Maintain accurate records of hours worked, wage rates, job classifications, and fringe benefits.
Coordinate with project managers and field supervisors to verify timesheets and job costing data.
Manage employee deductions, garnishments, and direct deposit information.
Stay current on prevailing wage rates, labor compliance updates, and union agreements.
Respond to internal and external payroll inquiries promptly and professionally.
Assist with audits and provide supporting payroll documentation as needed.
Ensure confidentiality and security of payroll data at all times.
Utilize payroll software (e.g., ADP, Paychex, Viewpoint, or similar) for processing and reporting.
Collaborate with HR and accounting teams to support payroll-related functions. Qualifications :
3+ years of experience in construction payroll
Proven expertise in certified payroll reporting (Davis-Bacon, prevailing wage compliance, etc.)
Familiar with multi-state payroll and job costing
Experience with federal, state, and local wage laws
