Reporting directly to the Director of Human Resources, this Team member will get the technical hands-on education needed with systems and electronic tools, and will lead a team of experienced payroll professionals in successfully and efficiently executing weekly payroll administration and payroll tax obligations throughout the U.S. and Canada. This is an exciting opportunity for a Team member who possesses the skills, experience, and determination to grind through all that it takes to execute a successful program and continually bring efficiencies in processes in a positive and productive manner.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities :
- On-the-job ramp up of personal education on payroll processes, Workday and other electronic systems and tools
- Work with Payroll Team, Human Resources colleagues and Leadership, lay out strategic objectives with meaningful goals, track and report production and efficiency improvements using an established standard and tools, and show continuous progress
- Share objectives, communicate expectations, results, and plans for tuning up in response to needs
- Develop and manage budget for payroll programs
- When the need arises, hire Team members who are skilled and a strong fit
- Educate Team members on payroll procedures
- Provide leadership, management, and support to our Payroll Team of approximately 10 individuals
- Audit the teams work to ensure 100% accuracy and compliance
- Lead and oversee payroll administration activities for the U-Haul organization, including tax remittance on a weekly, bi-weekly, quarterly, and annual basis
- Ensure payroll processes are on-time and comply with all applicable Federal, State, and Provincial laws and / or regulations
- Maintain and manage that sensitive information is accessed strictly using prudent standard operating procedures, then held in strict confidence
- Ensure highest standards for managing a separation of duties and proactively managing security access, controls, and execution of weekly audits.
- Additional oversight is executed with separate Security, Controls and Audit teams
- Develop and submit plans and requests for technical projects and see them through to success. Projects are for the purpose of improving processes and tools used by Payroll Team and Corporate Team members, such as time worked submissions, that saves time and reduces cost
- Maintain accurate records for taxes, direct deposit information and voluntary / involuntary deductions
- Lead year-end payroll projects to include creating and validating the accuracy of W-2, T4, and RL1 forms, with on-time delivery
- Working with U-Haul Company Accounting Team, comprehend and ensure payroll processes are developed to produce proper accounting records, and ensure results
- Providing leadership, management, planning, collaboration, and outcome are essential.
- Perform other duties as needed including direct hands on wherever needed.
