Job Description

Description : Who We Are :

Are you ready to work at a dynamic institution that believes in higher education with lower obstacles? Benjamin Franklin Cummings Institute of Technology (now known as Franklin Cummings Tech) is a nationally accredited non-profit, technical college serving Eastern Massachusetts and beyond. The college was seeded in 1791 with funds from the estate of Benjamin Franklin given to the City of Boston to proliferate access to education and level the playing field for aspiring talent with meager financial means.

Today, Franklin Cummings Tech continues to build on that legacy by offering post-secondary education in high-demand technical and skilled trade fields that lead to excellent careers. Our majors intentionally focus on select industries connected to sustainability and the clean energy transition including electric vehicle technology, smart manufacturing, practical electricity, power engineering, heat pumps / HVAC, biotechnology, automation, construction management, and more.

With a mission to deliver transformative technical and trade education that leads to economic advancement , we offer a unique mix of certificate and degree-granting programs that appeal to enterprising students and respond to employer’s demand for a well-prepared workforce. Intentional partnerships with the industries we serve coupled with high graduation and job placement rates, recently attracted the largest philanthropic gift in the history of the college from the Cummings Foundation.

Last year, Franklin Cummings Tech educated more than 1,000 learners across three student types : 1) certificate and degree seekers, 2) continuing education clients, and 3) high schoolers pursuing early college. As further evidence that our mission holds resonance, this year the college tracked a 25% year-over-year jump in fall new student enrollment and applications soared.

We seek team members who are optimistic, entrepreneurial, data-informed, and excited about the prospect of continuing to strategically increase student success outcomes and total enrollment from 1,000 learners today to at least 1,500 learners by 2030. Join us in this mission-driven work!

Overview :

The College Work-Study Program provides jobs for students with financial need. This program is a subsidized student employment program designed to assist students in financing their post-secondary education. Students earn money according to the hours worked and these funds help pay their educational expenses. In order to be eligible for Work-Study, students must document financial need every year by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Work-study is a need based award that cannot be awarded to a student if the award combined with other resources would exceed the student’s need. Students are awarded funds based on their financial need but are only paid for hours worked. Any unearned funds at the end of the program term are forfeited. Students applying for this work-study position are not guaranteed a position. Work-study earnings are not paid in advance so they cannot be used to pay the direct costs (tuition, books, etc.) of the semester in which they are awarded.

Position Summary :

As a Peer Support for CompTIA Security+ certification preparation, you will assist fellow students in understanding key concepts related to cybersecurity, networking, and risk management, ensuring they are well-prepared for the exam. You will help clarify complex topics, provide study resources, lead practice sessions, and offer guidance on exam strategies. Your role will involve fostering a collaborative learning environment, answering questions, and motivating peers to stay focused on their study goals. Strong communication skills, a solid understanding of the Security+ curriculum, and a commitment to helping others succeed are essential for this position.

Requirements :

Key Responsibilities :

  • Meet a student one-to-one or in small groups outside of class to provide learning assistance.
  • Assist students in understanding course material, completing assignments, and preparing for exams by providing additional resources and explanations as needed.
  • Guide students through hands-on exercises and simulations to apply theoretical knowledge in practical scenarios.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with students regarding their progress, upcoming sessions, and any concerns or questions they may have.
  • Determine the tutoring schedule with the student or group of students and let the Learning Specialist know the schedule.

  • Provide the student(s) and Learning Specialist with adequate notice if a tutoring session needs to be cancelled, and arrange to reschedule the meeting if possible.
  • Wait at least 15 minutes for student(s) to appear for tutoring appointment.

  • Explain, break down, and / or simplify concepts to help the student(s) understand.
  • Guide the student(s) through problem-solving process rather than doing it for them.
  • Complete weekly timesheets and submit them to the supervisor.
