About CWS
Imagine waking up every morning with the chance to change someone's life. Imagine knowing your efforts will benefit both your career and our neighbors around the world. At CWS, our team knows they are making a difference every day. Whether you're in our U.S.-based offices supporting refugees, asylees or unaccompanied children ... implementing hygiene initiatives in Cambodia or rebuilding projects in Central America ... or even connecting remotely from your home on fundraising campaigns, grant reports, or critical communications - you have the opportunity to work towards a world where everyone has food, a voice and a safe place to call home.
Purpose
The ELT Instructor provides short-term English Language Training (ELT) that provides a bridge from client’s first language to essential English for use in navigating environments and systems within the United States. Lessons are designed to simulate daily English usage in different real-life situations, such as shopping, all types of physical care, housing acquisition and upkeep. Curriculum supports clients in all language modes – reading, writing, speaking and listening. Further, English is developed from pre-literacy to a level of fluency that targets immediate employability in such a manner as to promote physical security and economic self-sufficiency. This position is funded through December 2024.
Responsibilities
- Teach simple English grammar, writing, reading, speaking, and listening skills.
- Tailor lesson plans to meet specific student needs (focusing on the alphabet and numerals for pre-literacy level students).
- Act as a resource for students, giving information to help them survive and thrive in their new communities.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and personal information at all times.
- Document all contacts and services in client case files and maintain case note logs.
- Prepare funder-required reports.
- Maintain cooperative relationships and open communication with all staff and students.
- Perform all duties in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner.
- Assist in enforcing classroom rules and administrative regulations.
- Collaborate with Community Engagement Associate in CWS volunteer orientations to train new ELT volunteers and plan outreach activities to recruit new volunteers.
- Must have valid driver’s license and suitable vehicle for transporting clients.
- Work varied hours, including some night and weekend work.
- Undertake other duties as assigned.
