Kansas City Pet Project (KCPP), one of the nation’s most innovative and high-volume open-admission animal shelters, seeks a dynamic and visionary Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead its lifesaving mission. This is a unique opportunity to drive meaningful change, strengthen community impact, and advance progressive animal welfare.
About Kansas City Pet Project
Founded in 2012, KCPP operates the municipal animal shelter for Kansas City, MO, caring for over 16,000 animals annually. The organization has revolutionized sheltering through industry-leading adoption, pet retention, veterinary, and community outreach programs. The state-of-the-art Kansas City Campus for Animal Care serves as a hub for advocacy, education, and lifesaving efforts.
The Opportunity
The CEO will lead KCPP’s strategy, operations, and community engagement, ensuring continued growth and innovation. Key responsibilities include :
- Vision & Leadership – Develop and execute a strategic plan that enhances KCPP’s impact.
- Fundraising & Partnerships – Cultivate donor, corporate, and philanthropic relationships to secure sustainable funding.
- Operational Excellence – Oversee shelter operations, ensuring best practices in animal care and community programs.
- Advocacy & Public Policy – Represent KCPP at local and national levels, promoting progressive animal welfare policies.
- Culture & Team Leadership – Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing workplace.
Ideal Candidate
Competitive candidates will have proven experience in a senior leadership role within a nonprofit organization, preferably in animal welfare or a related field. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; advanced degree preferred.

Compensation & Benefits
Salary : $200,000 - $250,000. Comprehensive benefits, including healthcare, retirement, and professional development.
