The Opportunity
This is an excellent leadership opportunity for an experienced hospital pharmacy professional ready to step into a Director of Pharmacy or Assistant Director of Pharmacy role within an acute care environment. This position offers the ability to lead pharmacy operations, influence medication safety and efficiency, and develop high-performing pharmacy teams while maintaining a strong focus on quality, compliance, and fiscal responsibility.
The ideal candidate brings hands-on hospital pharmacy leadership experience, a collaborative leadership style, and a passion for continuous improvement and staff development.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain pharmacy policies and procedures that promote safe, effective, and cost-conscious medication use.
- Provide ongoing evaluation of pharmacy operations using continuous process improvement principles.
- Identify operational variances and develop actionable plans to improve efficiency, safety, and service delivery.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop pharmacy staff, fostering accountability and professional growth.
- Create job descriptions, performance standards, and measurable performance goals.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching and counseling as needed.
- Develop staff schedules, monitor workload metrics, and ensure appropriate staffing levels.
- Support education, training, and continuing education for pharmacy personnel.
- Serve as a role model, mentor, and preceptor within the department.
- Promote staff engagement and shared ownership in problem-solving and operational decision-making.
- Prepare and manage the annual pharmacy budget.
- Review monthly financial reports and manage departmental expenditures within budget guidelines.
- Monitor, justify, and report expenses that exceed budgeted targets.
- Ensure accurate preparation and submission of patient charges and pharmacy financial reports in accordance with organizational policy.
Qualifications
Education & Licensure
- Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD required
- Current, unrestricted Florida Pharmacist license required
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of pharmacy leadership or management experience
- Director of Pharmacy: 3–5 years of hospital pharmacy management experience
- Assistant Director of Pharmacy: 1–2 years of hospital pharmacy management experience
