Key Responsibilities

• Maintain adequate drug supply, oversee procurement of medications, manage inventory, and ensure compliance with all applicable Federal and State pharmacy laws, rules, and regulations.
• Prepare, sterilize, label, and dispense medications including parenteral products; read and interpret drug orders; fill stat orders per protocol; and ensure strict control and accountability of all dispensed drugs.
• Maintain accurate records of all pharmacy transactions, controlled substance documentation, unit dose charts, and patient charges in accordance with applicable law and pharmacy policies.
• Conduct monthly inspections of patient care units and pharmacy areas; monitor drug storage, refrigerator temperatures, and removal of outdated or recalled medications.
• Monitor patient drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drug interactions, allergies, and appropriateness of drug and dose; detect and report adverse drug reactions; provide clinical consultation to practitioners.
• Participate in Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee meetings, quality assurance programs, medication use review activities, and staff education and training programs.

Required Qualifications

• Active and unrestricted Pharmacist license valid in the state of Michigan.
• Knowledge of Federal and State pharmacy laws, rules, and regulations.
• Experience with controlled substance management, documentation, and compliance.
• Proficiency in preparing and dispensing parenteral and non-parenteral medications with appropriate sterile technique.
• Strong clinical knowledge including drug therapy monitoring, pharmacokinetic dosing, and anticoagulation management.

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience with EPIC electronic health records system.
• Experience with medication reconciliation, including gathering prior-to-admission home medication lists and providing discharge counseling to patients and families.
• Clinical background in Antimicrobial Stewardship, including interpretation of culture results and knowledge of common infectious disease states such as UTI, pneumonia, and SSTI.
• Familiarity with JCAHO accreditation standards and continuous quality improvement processes.
