Job Description : Responsibilities
- Job Summary : Reporting to the Director of Pharmacy, the Operations Pharmacy Manager is responsible for leading and managing comprehensive pharmacy services in key centralized areas of the pharmacy, as determined by hospital needs
- The Operations Pharmacy Manager will serve as the hiring manager for the clinical pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
- Other key responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to : staff development, team building, workflow optimization, compliance with all state and federal standards, and the development of pharmacy-related policies / procedures and guidelines which promote medication safety, appropriate use of medications, formulary compliance, cost-effective practice, and optimal patient outcomes
- Practices pharmacy in accordance with laws, rules and regulation of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy, Department of Public Health, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and Drug Enforcement Administration and in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures
- Collaborates with the Director of Pharmacy and Pharmacy management team to develop and implement pharmacy programs and services in support of the pharmacy mission and strategic plan
- Provides leadership and direction to the Pharmacy Team / s; Manages staff resources to ensure staffing plans meets departmental and patient care needs
- Responsible for performance evaluations; staff training and development; team building; recruitment; vacation / leave approvals; disciplinary matters and other related personnel management duties
- Serves as a pharmacy leader and active participant in hospital committees as needed
- Works collaboratively with other health care providers and the pharmacy team members to develop and maintain a sound formulary system to support evidence based pharmaceutical care and cost-effective drug utilization
- Develops and implements policies, guidelines, standard operating procedures and other related practice documents
- Serves in a leadership role in the development and management of educational and training programs for the pharmacy staff, students and other health care professionals
- Coordinates competency assessments, career ladder evaluations and other staff development programs
- Fosters a team environment within the department and effective inter-disciplinary collaboration
- Plans efficient and effective utilization of resources
- Maintain expertise and up to date knowledge in appropriate specialty practice area, providing consultation with other health care professionals as appropriate
- Has the authority to direct and support employees daily work activities
- Has the direct responsibility to undertake the following employment actions : hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews
- Assists in planning, monitoring and / or managing budget in functional area of department
