Stamford Health is seeking a Per Diem Pharmacy Technician I. The Pharmacy Technician I role performs a variety of technical, clerical, inventory, and delivery tasks to support the Department of Pharmacy in the provision of pharmacy services with an emphasis on accuracy and patient safety. This position is a rotating shift therefore the expectation is to demonstrate flexibility and reliability in working first, second and third rotating shifts as assigned.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES / CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
1. Manages Pyxis inventory by performing accurate drug selection, refilling, loading, stock rotation and expiration date entry of medications in the Pyxis machines.
2. Ensures appropriate and secure handling and management of controlled substances from receipt to delivery per established department policies / procedures and government regulations.
3. Ensures removal of expired / damaged products from pyxis machines, medication rooms and pharmacy inventory in a timely fashion
4. Assists pharmacists in providing timely pharmacy services including but not limited to drug delivery, resolution of Pyxis and Talyst problems, urgent patient care needs, and routine patient specific unit dose medication selection.
5. Prepares and fills all floor stock requests, including emergency code trays, EMS needs and various medication kits.
6. Performs controlled substance inventory, reviews controlled drug utilization reports and other various requirements per departmental policies.
7. Maintains refrigerator and freezer temperature logs per departmental and regulatory requirements.
8. Performs billing / charging duties as required.
9. Performs medication room and pharmacy inventory inspections monthly according to department policies / procedures.
10. Accurately packages medications into unit of use containers using Talyst packager or barcode labeling equipment; ensure correct labeling of medications and adhere to NDC and bar code regulatory requirements. Documents all packaging activity appropriately.
11. Communicates effectively with pharmacists, nursing, and other healthcare professionals to provide optimal pharmacy services and to uphold the values of the pharmacy department by creating positive working relationships and demonstrating standards of excellence.
12. Manages, operates, triages, and performs preventative maintenance on pharmacy equipment safely and correctly.
13. Performs purchasing duties in compliance with 340B and Drug Supply Chain Security Act requirements and exercises fiscal responsibility.
14. Receives, inventories, and puts away the wholesaler medication order with accuracy and in compliance with USP
Hazardous Drugs, 340B regulations and Verify on Receipt software.
15. Demonstrates collaborative approach in ensuring adequate inventory of medications and supplies to provide seamless pharmacy services.
16. Understands and maintains compliance with HIPAA regulations.
17. Participates in departmental initiatives as required.
18. Completes all assigned competencies, Oracle learning activities and other required training courses.
19. Pharmacy technicians work under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and all medication related activities must be checked and approved by a pharmacist.
1. High school graduate or equivalent required.
2. Pharmacy technician state registration (CT license) required.
3. National pharmacy technician certification required (CPhT) strongly preferred.
