As the primary clinical leader of the training clinic, the Clinical Director oversees clinic operations, supports student therapists and supervisors, ensures safe and effective client care, and advances continuous quality improvement. Working in partnership with faculty and program leadership, this individual helps create a dynamic learning environment where students, clients, and the broader community thrive. Through mentorship, supervision, and clinical education, the Clinical Director plays an important role in fostering the knowledge, character, and professional formation necessary for meaningful service in the counseling profession.

  • Collaborate with faculty regarding student performance, remediation planning, readiness for clinical advancement, and integration of academic learning with clinical practice.

Client Care, Risk Management & Clinical Oversight | 25%

  • Oversee client referrals, assess appropriateness for services, and coordinate client assignments based on client and student needs.
  • Provide clinical consultation and leadership during crises, clinical emergencies, and other high-risk situations, including safety planning and risk assessment.
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and compliant clinical documentation, reporting, and follow-up related to client care and significant clinical concerns.
  • Maintain and review policies and procedures related to client safety, risk management, mandated reporting, ethical practice, and professional standards.

Clinic Operations & Quality Improvement | 15%

  • Direct the day-to-day clinical operations of the Whitworth Marriage and Family Therapy Center.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain clinic policies, procedures, and workflows in collaboration with the Program Director.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable ethical, legal, accreditation, professional, and university requirements.
  • Utilize clinic data, client outcomes, and stakeholder feedback to support quality improvement, program evaluation, and operational effectiveness.

Faculty Teaching & Program Leadership | 10%

  • Participate in faculty meetings, accreditation activities, strategic planning initiatives, and continuous program improvement efforts.
  • Support student orientation and training related to clinic operations, ethics, documentation, professional standards, and clinical expectations.
  • Maintain professional competence through continuing education, discipline engagement, professional service, and other activities consistent with operating a successful clinic.

Supervision Infrastructure & Clinical Resources | 5%

  • Collaborate with the Program Director to develop, maintain, and evaluate the clinic's supervision model and training framework.
  • Assist in the recruitment, onboarding, coordination, and evaluation of MFTC on-site supervisors.
  • Promote consistency in supervision practices, documentation standards, and student evaluation processes.
  • Coordinate supervisory coverage and clinical support during clinic operating hours.

Facilities, Technology & Other Responsibilities | 10%

  • Oversee the effective use of clinic facilities, therapy spaces, scheduling systems, and clinical technologies.
  • Ensure the secure management of clinical recordings, client data, protected health information, and other confidential records.
  • Partner with the Program Coordinator to maintain clinic resources and support an effective clinical training environment.
  • Collaborate with faculty, supervisors, university administration, Risk Management, students, and community referral partners to advance clinic and program goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Current Washington State licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or eligibility to obtain Washington LMFT licensure within an established period following appointment.
  • AAMFT Clinical Fellow status or eligibility to obtain Clinical Fellow status.
  • Minimum of five years of post-master's clinical experience, including demonstrated expertise in systemic and relational clinical practice.
  • Demonstrated experience providing clinical supervision to graduate students, clinicians-in-training, or practicing clinicians, including evaluating and supporting the development of clinical competencies.
  • Knowledge of legal, ethical, and professional standards governing Marriage and Family Therapy practice, clinical supervision, and graduate clinical training.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, administrators, students, supervisors, community partners, and individuals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
