Patton State Hospital, Human Resources is accepting applications for at least one (1) Permanent, Full-time Physical Therapy Assistant. Appointment to this position is assigned to the Medical Services Department under the direct supervisor of the Medical Services Administrator. Expected work assignment is Monday-Friday, 8 : 00 a.m. to 4 : 30 p.m. Hours may vary to meet the needs of the department.
The Physical Therapist Assistant is responsible for carrying individual patient care programs as planned by a supervising registered physical therapist; trains patients in exercises, ambulation, and activities of daily living; applies heat and cold, ultrasound and massage, light, in water and observes and reports client’s physical condition and response to treatment; assists Registered Physical Therapist in performing tests, evaluations, and complex treatment procedures; maintains safe environment for patients; maintains treatment areas and equipment in satisfactory operation condition; maintains adequate supplies; attends clinics; may post client and treatment data in records; may participate in clerical and reception activities of Physical Therapy Department.
Ability to maintain effective therapeutic relationships with mentally or developmentally disable persons; utilize recognized methods in applying physical therapy techniques; follow directions and work under close supervision; observe and record responses to treatment; and keep accurate records; observe and accurately record the physical therapy patient’s signs, symptoms, and behavior, and also to observe progress or lack of progress toward treatment goals; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; keep accurate records and prepare timely reports; work effectively and cooperatively with patients, unit / program staff, and other program / department staff; provide a safe, secure, and healthy environment for physical therapy patients; maintain alertness, analyze situations and take effective and timely action; computer skills.

Working Conditions
Patton is a forensic psychiatric hospital and was established in 1890 and opened in 1893. DSH-Patton provides treatment to forensically and civilly committed patients within a secure treatment area. The hospital does not accept voluntary admissions.
