Are you a skilled and passionate advocate for Native and Indigenous communities, ready to build lasting partnerships and improve health outcomes in Pierce County? Elevate Health is seeking a dedicated and experienced Tribal Liaison to build meaningful partnerships with Tribes and tribal-serving organizations in Pierce County. In this role, you will work directly with tribal leaders, community members, and regional health partners to improve health outcomes for Native and Indigenous communities, supporting our mission that everyone, everywhere in Pierce County thrives. As a trusted representative of Elevate Health, you will play a key role in fostering collaboration, advancing culturally responsive care, and ensuring that tribal communities are actively engaged in initiatives that impact their health and well-being.

Heres what youll be doing :

Outreach, Engagement and Partnership Development

  • Maintain frequent and consistent communication with tribal partners, leaders, members, and elders to share information, keep abreast of activities, programs, and collaboration opportunities.
  • Meet regularly and actively engage with tribes and tribal serving organizations in Pierce County to build trust and support increased collaboration and partnership.
  • Serve as a liaison and primary point of contact for regional tribes to create mutually beneficial agreements and partnerships.
  • Serve as Elevate Health representative to the statewide ACH Tribal Liaison workgroup of the Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) and American Indian Health Commission (AIHC).

Program Management and Development

  • Collaborate with the Community-Based Care Coordination team to advance the work of Elevate Healths Community Care Hub by supporting the tribally based health workforce and the social care network supporting American Indians / Alaskan Natives (AI / AN) individuals and tribal members in Pierce County.
  • Coordinate interaction with tribal organizations, communities, leaders and Elevate Health staff to support the development and management of contracts.
  • Serves as central point of contact for tribal partners and organizations to facilitate participation with Elevate Health in ensuring quality of services and continuous quality improvement of culturally responsive care coordination for AI / AN communities in Pierce County.
  • Adhere to HIPAA security and compliance standards and tribal data sovereignty.
  • Support the health outcomes and goals of tribal communities and tribal partners. Develop and implement work plans that reflect shared goals.
  • Facilitate a committee or workgroup comprised of tribal partners to assess tribal implications of potential initiatives, policies, and actions.
  • Arrange meeting logistics, generating and distributing invitations, drafting agendas, sharing meeting summaries, and taking responsibility for action items and follow-up.
  • Organizational Learning and Cultural Competency

  • Advise staff, Board and partners on Coast Salish and Washington state tribal history, treaties, sovereignty, self-governance, protocols, customs and traditions, natural resources, cultural properties, and other issues concerning relations with tribal governments.
  • Provide updates on tribal engagement activities for internal and external audiences, including events, accomplishments, and meeting summaries.
  • Support program staff in contract development with tribal partners, as needed.
  • Support communications staff to identify and implement best practices in culturally responsive communications and tribal outreach strategies.
  • Support adherence to the Medicaid Transformation Projects tribal engagement and collaboration policy and protocol in relevant activities and events.
  • Work in collaboration with staff and Board to establish and strengthen initiatives related to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging with an emphasis on reflecting the needs and priorities of tribal communities.
  • Heres what were looking for :

    We will consider any combination of relevant work experience, volunteering, education, and transferable skills as qualifying. Please be clear and specific in your application materials on how your background is relevant.

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution in a job-related field AND
  • Minimum 3 years of public health, community health, or social work experience in a tribe or tribal serving organization, healthcare or social services organization OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience and professional certification may be qualifying, provided the individuals background demonstrates evidence of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the duties of the position.
  • Minimum 5 years working in Indian Country (including tribes, tribal communities and / or organizations).
  • Strong grasp of best practices in respectful tribal engagement and understanding of the government-to-government relationship,tribal consultation, and tribal sovereignty and treaty rights.
  • An understanding of AI / AN health disparities and the historical context from which these disparities have arisen.
  • Working knowledge of the Indian Health System (IHS) and how (AI / AN) individuals receive health care coverage and benefits.
  • Experience in program development, implementation and management.
  • Effectively use common office productivity software such as Microsoft Office.
  • Write and convey messages clearly, demonstrating cultural sensitivity, awareness and competency.
  • Preferred qualifications :

  • Experience working with healthcare, public health, and social service agencies in a case management or care coordination capacity.
  • Experience working in or with a state agency, including the State of Washington.
